What They Are:

Offer Letters:

Offer letters are formal documents issued to applicants when they are being hired for a new position. They outline the terms of employment, including start date, job responsibilities, and compensation details. Two dots accept offer letters with a future start date or a start date within 3 weeks old.

Employment Verification Letters:

Employment verification letters confirm that an applicant is currently employed or has previously been employed with a company. These letters usually include the hire date, job title, and pay information. These letters alone are not sufficient for income verification. When an applicant provides an employment verification letter, we always request for alternative proof of income,as they are already employed. This can be one of the following:

  • Recent paystubs

  • Recent Bank statements

  • The applicant can also link a bank account

These additional documents ensure that the applicant’s stated income is active and accurate.

Why This Distinction Matters

Understanding the difference ensures accurate qualification decisions:

  • Offer letters allows Twodots to verify future income and approve applicants who have not yet received their first paycheck.

  • Employment verification letters validate employment status but require additional documents to verify actual income.

FAQs

Do start dates matter for offer letters?

Yes, because they confirm whether the applicant’s income is active or projected accurately.

Can Two dots approve an application with only an employment verification letter?

No. Two dots will request paystubs and bank statements or link a bank account as an alternative proof of income, as they are already employed.

What if the applicant is paid in cash?

Two dots will request them to: link their bank account(if property allows cash deposits on bank link data) or submit any of the 2024 tax documents below:

1. Tax Return Transcript

2. Account Transcript

3. Record of Account

If the applicant needs help obtaining the document from the IRS, please have them use this link: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript.
