This is the NPC Editor where non-player characters (NPCs) to be put into the game are assembled from the uploaded assets. This section covers the process of creating NPCs in the Editor.

Getting to and using the NPC Editor

Let’s go through how to access the NPC Editor and create NPCs in the CAS.

1. From the main CAS menu, select the NPC Editor link.

2. You will find yourself in the NPC page.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the + Create New button.

4. The NPC Editor will open, allowing you to create an NPC.

5. To start, choose a mesh from the mesh library in the first dropdown box on the left.

6. Next, choose the appropriate material instance from the material instance library in the subsequence dropdown box, ideally one you created specifically for the mesh

7. Once you have done that, choose the appropriate skeleton from the skeleton library in next dropdown box, ideally one you created specifically for the mesh

8. You may preview the animations housed in the skeleton in the next dropdown box to see if your assets work together. Once you are satisfied with the settings, name and save, and your NPC will appear in the NPC library.

Best Practices

Here are some general guidelines for creating NPCs in the NPC Editor:

  • The animation dropbox is merely a preview for what animations will look like on your character, the character will always default to its idle when first imported into a map.

  • We recommend naming your NPC in a way that best makes sense to you and your organisational sensibilities. Be sure to ensure that you are not overriding anyone else’s NPCs as you work on them.
