🔢 How do league standings work?

Learn how to set up your league standings, and how they're calculated.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

🙌 New! Standings are now available for handicap leagues. If your league has handicap events, then two separate standings boards will be visible when standings are enabled. Please note: new players who did not have a handicap when playing (or saw a –), will not be counted in Handicap standings for that week.

Setting up league standings

To set up league standings for singles format leagues, head to the Standings tab in your League tools and follow the steps below:

  1. Select the date range of events included in the calculation

    1. Set the date range to include the start and end of your season.

    2. This date range can be changed and won't affect past standings data.

    3. If the date range includes doubles events (or other teams events like triples), then only the singles events will be considered for standings points.

  2. Determine how many rounds to keep

    1. For each player, if they play more than that number of rounds, only their best rounds will be calculated in their standing points (and the rest dropped).

  3. Set the minimum points for participating

    1. All players will receive at least this number of points for participating in each league event

  4. Set the ‘Points depth percentage’

    1. The 'points depth percentage' will determine how many players earn standings points at each event. For example, if the depth percentage is set at 50%, and 18 people show up to play, then 9 of those players will receive points, and the remaining players will receive the minimum number of points for participating.

  5. Save your changes

    1. Hit Save, tap Exit League tools, navigate to the Standings tab and view your public standings.

💡 Pro tip! Change the start and end dates each league season so you don't need to create a new league!

How are standing points calculated?

League standing points are calculated using two variables for each league event. First is the number of players that showed up for the league event (N). The second is the depth percentage of participating players who will receive points towards league standings (D). (In the example listed above, N is 18, and D is 50%.)

The player who comes in first place will receive N points. So if eighteen players show up to play league, then the best score earns eighteen standings points. Points will be awarded to players who finish above the depth limit, D. These players will be awarded points along a decaying curve. The decaying curve starts at N points, and ends at 2 points.

All players who finish below the depth limit will receive 1 participation point. If a player ends with a DNF, they do not receive any standings points. The below graph shows the scores based on our above example. The top 50% receive points starting with N and then along a decaying curve ending with 2 points. The remaining 50% receives one participation point.

Standings points cannot be adjusted manually.

What happens in the event of a tie?

If players tie for a finishing position on the leaderboard, the points for the all tied players are added up and divided by the number of players in the tie, and rounded down. For example, let’s take the graph from above and assume player 2, 3, 4 are all tied. We would add up the scores for the positions they occupy (13 + 10 + 8 = 31), divide by 3 and round down (⌊31 / 3⌋ = 10 rounded down). All three players would be awarded 10 points each.

Do standings work for teams events and do they work across divisions?

No, standings points are applicable for singles events only (including handicap events) - there is currently no support for standings on doubles or other teams format league events. You can create singles and doubles events through the same league, and then standings will reflect the results from singles competition only. A few other important details about standings:

  • Points are awarded per division.

  • Points don’t carry or combine across divisions.

    • For example, player A competes in the MPO division week 1 and receives 10 points. They compete in the MA1 division week 2 and receive 20 points. Player A would have 10 points in the MPO division, and 20 points in the MA1 division; their points would not combine. For events using handicap scoring, league standings points are based on raw total score, not handicap-adjusted score.

How do players view standings?

Once standings are enabled from your League tools, players can tap from your league in the app and tap League info or head directly to your league website. From there they’ll select Standings.

Why isn't my league event showing up in standings?

If you notice that a specific league event is missing from the overall standings, this can occur due to several reasons related to event completion status, league settings, or event format.

Requirements for events to appear in standings

  • Active league season dates: Events are only included in standings if they fall within the configured season dates for the league. Once the league season ends, any further events will not contribute to standings points.

  • Singles format requirement: As noted above, only singles events are eligible for standings calculations.

  • Event completion status: UDisc automatically marks events as completed after 48 hours. You can manually mark an event as completed through the admin leaderboard toggle.

  • Proper event setup: Double-check that the event was executed through UDisc Leagues and associated with the correct league.

Resolving missing events in standings

  1. Review event configuration

    1. Ensure the event's date, format, and settings are correct and align with the league's configuration.

  2. Adjust league season dates

    1. If needed, modify league season dates via the admin dashboard to ensure all intended events are covered within the standings calculations.

  3. Manually complete events

    1. Use the admin leaderboard toggle to manually complete any events that remain incomplete in the system.
