๐Ÿ“Using your GPS location on Map Manager

Map Manager requires location permission granted to your browser specifically โ€” not just to the UDisc app. This article covers how to fix common permission errors and how to map without GPS if needed.

Updated this week

Audience: Course Ambassadors | Level: Beginner

Quick Answer

If you're getting an "access denied" error, you'll need to enable location access for your browser at the site level โ€” even if the UDisc app already has location permission on your device. If you can't enable browser GPS, you can still place tees and targets accurately by entering latitude and longitude coordinates manually.

Using your location in Map Manager

If you are using Map Manager while physically at the course, you can use your location to place tees and targets accurately on the map.

  1. Make sure that the Map Manager site has permission to access your location.

  2. Tap the icon to add a tee or target to the map.

  3. Tap Use my location in the upper right.

  4. You should then see your GPS location shown on the map, and can place the element accordingly.

Note: Even if UDisc has location access on your device, you may still need to enable it separately for your browser (e.g., Safari) at the site level.

If you're receiving an "access denied" error

Before diving into platform-specific steps, ensure the following general settings:

  1. Turn on Location Services: On iOS or Android, ensure that location services are enabled via the device's settings. On iOS: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and toggle it ON.

  2. Allow location access for UDisc: On mobile browsers, go into settings and find UDisc.com. Make sure location access is set to "Allow."

  3. Reset browser data: Clear any saved data for UDisc in the browser settings. This will help to reset permissions and resolve potential conflicts.

For iOS devices

  1. Open your preferred browser (Safari or another installed browser).

  2. Configure browser permissions:

    • Tap the browser menu (e.g., the small icon in Safari's bottom bar).

    • Scroll to Location, then choose Allow.

  3. Privacy settings:

    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

    • Scroll down and tap Safari Websites. Select one of the following options: Ask Next Time, While Using the App, or When I Share.

  4. Screen Time restrictions:

    • Navigate to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Location Services.

    • Confirm Location Services are allowed and ensure Safari is not restricted.

  5. Precise location:

    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Safari Websites.

    • Verify that Precise Location is enabled.

  6. Clear website data:

    • Navigate to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data.

    • Locate and delete cached data for UDisc.com.

For Android devices

  1. Open the browser or app you're using for UDisc.

  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner.

  3. Open Settings, then tap on Location.

  4. Locate UDisc.com in the list of sites.

  5. Set location permissions to "Allow" to enable GPS functionality for mapping.

Additional tips for Safari users

  1. After following the above instructions, test whether Safari is permitting location usage by accessing a different website requiring GPS.

  2. If issues persist, restart your browser or device, as this can solve lingering connectivity problems.

Mapping without GPS

If you're unable to enable browser location permissions or prefer not to, you can still place tees and targets accurately using latitude and longitude coordinates. See the Use GPS coordinates section of ๐Ÿ“ Fine-tuning tee and target positions for step-by-step instructions.
