Quick Answer
Use the Casual sign up template when creating your event for automatic flex start setup. Or manually configure any event by setting Start format to "Flex start" and Who can create cards? to "Players and event admins" in Event Tools β Scoring tab. This allows players to arrive and play anytime.
π Option 1: Use Casual Sign Up Template (Easiest)
When creating a league event, use the Casual sign up template - flex start is already configured!
League Tools β Events β + Create new event
Select Casual sign up template
Configure date, course, divisions (optional)
Create event
β Done! Players can now check in and create cards when they arrive.
βοΈ Option 2: Manually Configure Flex Start
For existing events or non-league events:
Step 1: Enable UDisc Scoring
Go to Event Tools β Scoring tab
Select Yes for "I will be using UDisc to score my event"
Step 2: Set Start Format
Under Start format, select Flex start
This allows players/teams to play anytime after the event start time.
Step 3: Enable Player Card Creation
Under Who can create scorecards? select Players and event admins
This allows players to:
Check in to the event
Create their own card
Add other players to their card
Step 4: Save
Scroll down and tap Save
π₯ Admin Controls
Even with flex start, admins can still:
Add players from Participants tab
Create card groupings from Cards tab
Monitor scoring from Leaderboard
π When Players Can Start
Check-in opens: Midnight local time the night before the event
Event window: Players can create cards and start playing anytime from midnight until the event end time
β Common Questions
Q: Can I still create cards as admin in a flex start event? A: Yes! Admins can always create cards from the Cards tab, even when players can create their own.
Q: Players can't check in to my flex start event. What do I do? A: Check Event Tools β Scoring tab and make sure Who can create cards? is set to "Players and event admins" (not "Just event admin"). Players can only check in and create cards when this setting allows player card creation.
Q: What's the difference between flex start and shotgun/tee times? A: Flex start = players arrive and start whenever. Shotgun = all cards start at once. Tee times = scheduled start times. Learn more
Q: Can players join existing cards? A: Yes! When creating a card, players can see and join existing cards that haven't started yet.
Q: Do I need to enable check-in? A: Check-in is automatically enabled when you allow players to create cards.
