Managing Shipping Charges on Shopify Orders

Configure where Shopify shipping charges are allocated in your accounting system when orders are imported into Unleashed.

When you import orders from your Shopify store into Unleashed, any shipping fees from those orders are automatically included as charge lines on your Sales Orders. This article explains how to configure where these shipping charges are allocated if you are integrated with an accounting system.

What are Shipping Charges?

In Shopify, shipping fees appear in your order summary. When these orders are imported into Unleashed:

  • Each shipping fee becomes a separate charge line on the Sales Order

  • If your Shopify order has multiple shipping fees, each one will create its own charge line

  • These charges need to be assigned to the correct account in your integrated accounting systems: Xero or QuickBooks.

The Shipping Charge Account setting, in your Shopify store's configuration, allows you to:

  • Direct all Shopify shipping charges to a specific Sales Account in your accounting system.

  • Keep shipping revenue separate from product sales for better financial reporting.

  • Override the default Sales Account that would otherwise be used for all charges.


Configure your Shipping Charge Account

Follow these steps to set up your Shipping Charge Account:

  1. From Unleashed's main menu, navigate to eCommerce Hub > Shopify.

  2. Select "Configure" on your Shopify store.

  3. In the Configuration tab, scroll down to the "Shipping Charge Account" section.

  4. Use the dropdown menu to select the appropriate Sales Account from your accounting system.

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the configuration page and click Save Configuration.

Once configured, all future Shopify orders imported into Unleashed will automatically assign their shipping charges to your selected Shipping Charge Account. This ensures consistent and accurate financial reporting for your shipping revenue.
