Private vs. General Access

Sharing Permissions

Each gallery has two forms of access - General Access and Private Access.

Private Access

Any time you share a gallery with a client via email, you will be creating a unique link for that client which gives them private access to the gallery. For each private link you create, you can independently manage the access settings for that client. This includes watermarks, password protection, download limitations and download resolutions.

As long as a client has their private link, they will not need an account to do things like creating a favourites list, downloading a gallery or downloading a limited number of photos.

General Access

The is the public link to your gallery. Here you can manage the settings for everyone who is viewing the gallery without private access.

For example: Let's say you share the gallery with your client and set their private access to include unlimited downloads without watermarks. But you don't want anyone they share the gallery with to be able to download images, so you can set the General Access to have downloads disabled and watermarks on.

Favourite lists are still possible for people who view the gallery with general access. Anyone who tries to create a favourites list will be prompted for an email address. Once they enter that email address, that person will be granted private access. Their private access settings will default to the current general access settings.

Similarly, you can set download limits for the general access link. Once they add an image to their download manager they will be prompted for an email address, and once confirmed they will be able to manage their limited downloads through their newly granted private access.

Limited Downloads

Download limits can be set for your clients. Once a client has been shared a gallery with limited downloads, they will be able to:

  • Click the download icon at the top right of the photo to add the photo to the download manager. This download icon appears on hover in the desktop grid view, or at the top right of the lightbox on both mobile and desktop.

  • Once the client has selected the photos they want to download, they can click the 'Download Images' button at the bottom of the download manager.

  • Once they select a resolution (if more than one are available), they will receive a notification that their zip file is being prepared.

  • We will then send an email to that client with a link to download a zip file of their photos.

Once a client has already downloaded one or more images, they will not be able to remove those images from the download manager. This is to stop people getting around the limits.

If the client would like access to more downloads, you can always increase their download limit via their private access settings.

Watermarks on the photos that are downloaded through limited downloads are optional. If you want to enable watermarks on your gallery, but disable them on the downloaded photos, you can uncheck the option that says 'Downloaded images have watermarks.'

Client Activity

You can track individual client activity in the dashboard. Gallery views, downloads, and favourites are individually tracked for every client with private access.

Each time a client hits a major milestone with your gallery (i.e. views it for the first time, creates a favourite list, downloads the full gallery or downloads a limited gallery) you'll get an email update and a notification.
