Getting Out in Front (Pitching)

What it is:

When the pitcher leans their torso forward excessively, releasing before rotation is complete.

Why it matters:

Leads to loss of power, high or inconsistent pitches, and poor follow-through.

Good mechanics in this phase look like:

  • Upright trunk posture through rotation.

  • Forward trunk tilt happens naturally at release, not early.

How to address it:

  • Drills: Wall drill for trunk control, stride-and-hold with trunk upright.

  • Cues: “Stay tall,” “Finish over your front leg, not before.”
