This article will walk you through how to use the Explore feature to connect and filter your datasets, to drive immediate data insights in response to your questions.
Click on the links in the headers below for step-by-step instructional videos.
Create a Layer
The Explore feature is available by clicking on the Explore icon in the purple UrbanLogiq toolbar.
Click on "Add Data Layer" to pull up a dataset.
Click on "New Layer" to edit your dataset layer name.
If you have more than one layer: click on the cluster of dots to the left of the layer name to re-order its place among the layers.
Note: Click on "Save Project" at the top right of your screen to save all your layers in the Projects Folder, so you can revisit them later.
Probe your Data - Selecting Datasets, and Filtering
Once you add a layer:
Select the dataset you would like to visualize on the map. (For example, you can select a "Crashes" dataset to visualize all crashes based on where they occurred on the map.)
Click "Run" to visualize all these points on the map.
Click "Add Filter" to narrow down your crash Incidents by, say, severity. Select the drop-down button in Criteria to decide what kind of type you want to filter for -- say, only fatal vehicle crashes.
Finally, click "Run" to visualize the filtered data on the map.
Perform queries across multiple datasets - Join Datasets
Perform a join to find data that lives across more than one dataset. For example: So far, we've pulled up crashes. What if you wanted to find crashes near to areas with bad pavement conditions?
Click on "Join - Near To";
Pull up a second dataset, e.g. "Transportation Pavement Inventory';
Filter, e.g. for pavement with low pavement conditions; and
Click "Run" to see the Join.
Click on the header link above to see how a similar example is done.
