This article will walk you through how to use the Explore feature to connect and filter your datasets, to drive immediate data insights in response to your questions.

Explore is a great place to test a hypothesis and see how the data you regularly use interacts or relates to other data sets you traditionally did not have access to, like demographic data or equity areas.

Create a Layer

The Explore feature is available by clicking the Explore icon in the UrbanLogiq toolbar.

  1. Click on "Add Data Layer" to pull up a dataset.

  2. Click on "New Layer" to edit your dataset layer name.

  3. If you have more than one layer: click on the cluster of dots to the left of the layer name to re-order its place among the layers.

Note: Click "Save Project" at the top right of your screen to save all your layers in the Projects Folder so that you can revisit them later.

Probe your Data

Once you add a layer:

  1. You can select the dataset you would like to see on the map. (For example, you can select a "Crashes" dataset to visualize all crashes based on where they occurred on the map.)

  2. Click "Run" to visualize all these points on the map.

  3. Click "Add Filter" to narrow down your crash Incidents by severity. Then, select the drop-down button in Criteria to decide what type to filter for -- say, only fatal vehicle crashes.

  4. Finally, click "Run" to visualize the filtered data on the map.

Perform queries across multiple datasets.

Perform a join to find data that lives across more than one dataset. For example: So far, we've pulled up crashes. What if you wanted to find collisions near to areas with lousy pavement conditions?

  1. Click on "Join - Near To"

  2. Pull up a second dataset, e.g., "Transportation Pavement Inventory."

  3. Filter, e.g., for the pavement with low pavement conditions; and

  4. Click "Run" to see the Join.

Click on the header link above to see how a similar example is done.

What's This Data Set All About Anway?

At UrbanLogiq, we believe that breaking down data silos can lead to better decisions. We always try to work with our customers to add more datasets to Explore to improve workflow.

If you are curious about what type of data is in a particular data set, we recommend clicking the information button by the DataSet.

It will bring up an about page and the data types in this particular data set. As well as exportable options and the source of the data set.

Have Questions?

In-app support is the best way to get help or answer questions regarding anything in the UrbanLogiq Platform. First, you can click on the chat bubble icon at the bottom left corner of the sidebar. Then you can start a new conversation in the chat box pop-up.

Furthermore, this is the best way to provide product feedback. We thrive and love hearing how our platform can be better. Giving us product feedback in the in-app chat requests is gathered and prioritized. This is the best way to give feedback (and even let us know what other data sets could be vital for you in the future). We love hearing feedback from our customers and love answering questions!
