Step 1: Open Both Tools
Twain: Open the campaign you want to export.
Lemlist: Open or create the target campaign where emails/LinkedIn messages will be sent.
Step 2: Confirm API Connection
In Twain, ensure your Lemlist API key is connected.
Verify that Twain shows the Lemlist campaign you want to export to.
Step 3: Create a Campaign in Lemlist (If Needed)
If no campaign exists yet:
Click Create Campaign in Lemlist.
Choose Create Manually.
Add an Email Step.
Optionally, add a LinkedIn Message Step.
Name your campaign clearly (e.g., Moments Campaign One).
Step 4: Name Your Message Steps in Twain
Give each outgoing message step a clear name to match in Lemlist (e.g., Email Intro One, Email Follow-up One, LinkedIn Step One).
If adding LinkedIn steps, generate the messages in Twain. Remember that LinkedIn formatting differs from email formatting.
Click Update All to ensure all messages are up to date.
Step 5: Choose a Subject Line
Select the subject-line variant for each email step in Twain.
Keeping subject lines consistent helps prevent confusion when mapping steps in Lemlist.
Step 6: Turn Off Duplicate Checking (Optional)
If you want all exported leads to go through regardless of duplicates, untoggle the “Check for duplicates” option in Twain.
Step 7: Export Leads from Twain
Click Export to Lemlist.
Select your Lemlist campaign.
Map steps correctly:
Step 1 → Email
Step 2 → LinkedIn (if applicable)
Confirm the subject line and source for each step.
Click Export Leads.
Verify that all leads have been exported successfully.
Step 8: Build the Campaign in Lemlist
If not already created, add email/LinkedIn steps in Lemlist to match the steps exported from Twain.
Step 9: Map Personalization Variables
Open the Personalization Settings for each step in Lemlist.
Confirm that custom variables pushed from Twain appear in the dropdown list.
These should match the step names you set in Twain.
Step 10: Assign Messages to Each Step
For each step in Lemlist, select the corresponding message:
Step 1 → Email Intro One
Step 2 → Email Follow-up One
Step 3 → LinkedIn Step One (if applicable)
Step 11: Preview Messages
Use Lemlist’s preview feature with sample leads.
Confirm that:
The message is correctly formatted.
Personalization variables populate correctly per lead.
Emails/LinkedIn messages appear as intended for each unique lead.
Step 12: Save and Launch
Save the campaign in Lemlist.
Launch according to your normal scheduling rules.
Quick Troubleshooting & Tips
If personalization variables don’t appear, re-check the API export step in Twain — variables must be pushed with the leads.
Preview multiple leads with different variable values to verify personalization works.
Use clear, consistent step names to make mapping easier.
Turn off duplicate checking in Twain if you want all leads exported.
Keep subject lines and follow-up timing consistent with your outreach policy.
