Step 1: Open Both Tools

  • Twain: Open the campaign you want to export.

  • Lemlist: Open or create the target campaign where emails/LinkedIn messages will be sent.

Step 2: Confirm API Connection

  • In Twain, ensure your Lemlist API key is connected.

  • Verify that Twain shows the Lemlist campaign you want to export to.

Step 3: Create a Campaign in Lemlist (If Needed)

  • If no campaign exists yet:

    • Click Create Campaign in Lemlist.

    • Choose Create Manually.

    • Add an Email Step.

    • Optionally, add a LinkedIn Message Step.

  • Name your campaign clearly (e.g., Moments Campaign One).

Step 4: Name Your Message Steps in Twain

  • Give each outgoing message step a clear name to match in Lemlist (e.g., Email Intro One, Email Follow-up One, LinkedIn Step One).

  • If adding LinkedIn steps, generate the messages in Twain. Remember that LinkedIn formatting differs from email formatting.

  • Click Update All to ensure all messages are up to date.

Step 5: Choose a Subject Line

  • Select the subject-line variant for each email step in Twain.

  • Keeping subject lines consistent helps prevent confusion when mapping steps in Lemlist.

Step 6: Turn Off Duplicate Checking (Optional)

  • If you want all exported leads to go through regardless of duplicates, untoggle the “Check for duplicates” option in Twain.

Step 7: Export Leads from Twain

  1. Click Export to Lemlist.

  2. Select your Lemlist campaign.

  3. Map steps correctly:

    • Step 1 → Email

    • Step 2 → LinkedIn (if applicable)

  4. Confirm the subject line and source for each step.

  5. Click Export Leads.

  6. Verify that all leads have been exported successfully.

Step 8: Build the Campaign in Lemlist

  • If not already created, add email/LinkedIn steps in Lemlist to match the steps exported from Twain.

Step 9: Map Personalization Variables

  • Open the Personalization Settings for each step in Lemlist.

  • Confirm that custom variables pushed from Twain appear in the dropdown list.

  • These should match the step names you set in Twain.

Step 10: Assign Messages to Each Step

  • For each step in Lemlist, select the corresponding message:

    • Step 1 → Email Intro One

    • Step 2 → Email Follow-up One

    • Step 3 → LinkedIn Step One (if applicable)

Step 11: Preview Messages

  • Use Lemlist’s preview feature with sample leads.

  • Confirm that:

    • The message is correctly formatted.

    • Personalization variables populate correctly per lead.

    • Emails/LinkedIn messages appear as intended for each unique lead.

Step 12: Save and Launch

  • Save the campaign in Lemlist.

  • Launch according to your normal scheduling rules.

Quick Troubleshooting & Tips

  • If personalization variables don’t appear, re-check the API export step in Twain — variables must be pushed with the leads.

  • Preview multiple leads with different variable values to verify personalization works.

  • Use clear, consistent step names to make mapping easier.

  • Turn off duplicate checking in Twain if you want all leads exported.

  • Keep subject lines and follow-up timing consistent with your outreach policy.
