Little to No-Prep modifications
Increase the difficulty
Add the Timer into game play (Shift & T)
Cover the Categories on the screen so they have to guess the puzzle without support
Swap puzzle to get vowel heavy puzzles, like "Hawaii Volcanoes" or puzzles with funky consonant clusters, like "Borscht Soup"
Use the IDIOM category in Hard and Extreme
Cover letters in the puzzle phrase with sticky notes on the screen to make it harder for residents to guess. Even if they guess the letter correct, they won't know which place it took, making it harder to guess correctly.
Heavier lift modifications
Create a custom "random" category with custom puzzles that have ties to your residents. For example, the puzzle could be the street name that resident "bob" grew up on. Then residents can guess who the puzzle is tied to!
Run each round with a new rule, like "No vowels" or "Any spinner space less than $500" can only choose a letter from the second half of the alphabet"
Deduct points for incorrect letter choices (record these deductions on a sticky note or in a note on your phone)
Create a Puzzle Categoy with Rare Words: Use puzzles based on categories like ancient proverbs, Shakespearean phrases, or uncommon words most people don't know.
Create puzzles with Mixed Word Order: Present phrases with the words out of order, so players need to reorder them correctly to solve.
