This page is an overview of the local and alternative payment methods you can offer through Adyen, beyond cards and wallets.
What alternative payment methods are
Alternative payment methods are the local and non-card options shoppers use in different markets. Through Adyen they can include:
Bank transfers and bank-based methods (for example direct debit options).
Buy now, pay later providers.
Local wallets and other regional payment methods.
Adyen supports most global and local payment methods through a single integration. The specific methods you can offer depend on the market you serve and on your account configuration, so availability varies. See Supported Payment Methods.
Enabling
These methods are accepted through Adyen and must be enabled on your merchant account. Contact Valpay to enable specific methods for your account.
How they integrate
Alternative payment methods integrate through Adyen Drop-in and Components.
With Drop-in and Components, Adyen returns the eligible payment methods per transaction, so shoppers only see the methods that are supported for that payment and enabled on your account.
Many alternative methods use a redirect, where the shopper authorizes at a bank or provider and returns to your
returnUrl. See Redirect Methods.Regardless of the method, you confirm the final outcome from the Adyen webhook, not from the frontend result alone. See Standard Payment Flow and Webhooks.
Notes
Capabilities such as recurring payments, refunds, and partial captures differ by payment method. Check the behavior for each method you plan to offer, and contact Valpay if you want help figuring out which methods and capabilities fit your use case.
