Vanta Questionnaire Automation provides tooling for completing various types of questionnaires. In this article, we'll walk through how to complete a portal or website questionnaire.
Install the Extension
Chrome
Open the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension in the Chrome Web Store.
Click Add to Chrome
The extension will let you know that it can read and change all your website data.
To approve, click Add extension.
Microsoft Edge
Open the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension in the Chrome Web Store.
Click Allow extensions from other stores
Click Allow
Click Add to Chrome
Click Add Extension
Brave
Open the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension in the Chrome Web Store.
Click Add to Brave

Troubleshooting
Extension cannot authenticate to Vanta
Double check you're logged in at app.vanta.com
Check chrome://policy to ensure that your administrators have not set Extension Settings to restrict the usage of extensions.
Text selection has limited functionality on Google Docs and Office 365
Questions can be copied/pasted/typed into the extension search
Text selection doesn't work on tabs that were already open before installing the extension
Refreshing these tabs will enable text selection for those tabs
Answering Questionnaires in the Portal
Go to Questionnaires
Click + Add a questionnaire
Please provide the company URL and questionnaire name, set the questionnaire type to the website link, and provide the Portal URL.
Optionally, fill in a due date, owner, or description. All of these fields can be edited later.
Adding the questionnaire into Vanta allows you to keep track of progress, even though the questionnaire itself will be answered using the extension.
Click Continue
Go to the portal/website URL where the questionnaire is located.
Open the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension on the page.
Select a question on the page to be answered.
The browser extension will display the Vanta AI answer (if possible) and related questions from your answer library.
Copy the answer you would like to use.
Paste the answer into the field on the page.
Once all questions are complete, return to the questionnaire in Vanta and update the status.
Automate Portal and Website Questionnaires with the Browser Extension (Beta)
Vanta’s Questionnaire Automation makes it easier to complete security questionnaires especially those hosted in web portals. This article walks through how to install the browser extension and use it to import, answer, and place responses directly into a web-based questionnaire.
Install the Vanta Browser Extension
You’ll need to install the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension from the Chrome Web Store.
For Chrome
Click Add to Chrome
Approve the prompt by clicking Add extension

Troubleshooting Common Issues
The extension isn’t authenticating to Vanta
Make sure you’re signed in at app.vanta.com
Visit
chrome://policyto check if your admin has restricted extension settings
Text selection doesn’t work in Google Docs or Office 365
You can copy, paste, or type the question into the extension’s search bar
Text selection doesn’t work on open tabs
Refresh the tab to enable text selection
Import Questions from a Web-Based Questionnaire
Navigate to the website where your questionnaire is located
Open the Vanta - Questionnaire Automation extension
Click Complete a web-based questionnaire
Click Create a questionnaire and fill in the required info
Or choose an existing questionnaire from your Vanta account
Click Start scan
Visit and scan each section of the form if there are multiple pages
Click Import questions to begin answering them
Edit and Collaborate on Responses in Vanta
Open the questionnaire in Vanta
Review, edit, and collaborate on answers—just like you would in a spreadsheet
Place Answers Back into the Website
Return to the website where the questionnaire lives
Open the Vanta browser extension
Select the questionnaire and click Fill answers
Vanta will place answers into the visible questions on the page
If the form has multiple sections, navigate to each one and click Refresh list, then Fill answers
Note: The extension is in beta and may not support all response types. Unsupported fields will need to be filled manually. Please share feedback if you run into any!
Handle Conditional Questions
Go to the page or section where new questions appear
Open the browser extension
Select the questionnaire and click Import questions
Vanta will scan for and import the new questions
Review and collaborate on answers in Vanta as usual
Mark the Questionnaire as Complete
In Vanta, open your questionnaire
Click Update status in the top right corner and select Complete
Optional: Sync any new or updated answers to your answer library
Note: All answers must be marked Approved before marking the questionnaire complete. Only approved answers will sync to your library.
Answer One-Off Questions on a Web Page
Open the Vanta extension on the relevant page
Click on the question you want to answer
The extension will show a Vanta AI suggestion and related answers from your library
Copy the preferred answer and paste it into the web form
