This feature is only available on Pro plan and higher plans.

This article will show you how to remove the background from your video using a Chrome key (Green screen) or an auto-background remover. Currently, you cannot remove the background from images.

Once you remove the background, you can add images, videos, and more as the background.

To get to the options, follow these steps:

  1. Head over to VEED.

  2. Create an account or Log in.

  3. Click on Create Project.

  4. Drag and drop the video you want to remove the background to the Upload a file part of the window or click on it and you can select the file you want to upload.

  5. Wait for the video to upload.

  6. Click on the video on the canvas or the timeline. This will bring up the Edit Video tab for that file on the left side.

At this point, you will see the 2 options. The Remove Background and the Green Screen. You will have to select the one you wish to use.

How to use the Remove Background option

This option will allow you to remove the background behind a person. You need to keep the following in mind:

  • This only works for people. It won't be able to remove the background behind objects. For example, it cannot remove the sky behind an airplane.

  • The person needs to be clearly visible in the video. If they blend into the background, the accuracy of it will decrease.

  • We recommend using higher resolution videos (HD or higher) to ensure that low resolution doesn't decrease the accuracy.

Here is how to use it:

  1. Click the Remove Background button to start the process.

  2. It will start removing the background from your video. This process takes time. The longer your video, the longer it will take.

  3. Once the progress is finished, the background should be removed, and the color will change to the color set up in the Settings tab in the project.

  4. You can change the background color in the Settings tab or upload images and videos and move them to the back using the CTRL + Up/Down arrow keys (Command + Up/Down arrow key for Mac).

How to use the Green Screen option

This option allows you to select a color on the video to make it transparent and set your own background. You need to keep the following in mind:

  • This option only works for videos.

  • Please ensure that the background color is consistent throughout the part you wish to make transparent. Having too much difference in the shade of the color can cause issues where some parts of the color are not removed. If this is the case and changing the sensitivity isn't fixing this, we cannot remove the background for that video.

Below are the steps:

  1. Scroll down in that tab until you reach the "Chroma Key" option and turn it on.

  2. To select which color to make transparent, click on the color picker and then click on the color on the canvas with the picker.

  3. Adjust the sensitivity so that every part of that color is made transparent.

The sensitivity setting can be set between the 1 and 100 range, where 1 is the least sensitive and 100 is the most sensitive.

  4. Once the background is transparent, head to the Media tab to upload video or image files.

  5. After uploading the file, select it on the canvas or the timeline.

  6. Use the CTRL + Up/Down arrow keys (Command + Up/Down arrow key for Mac) to move the selected file up or down a layer.

Please note that if you don't upload and set a background after using the Chroma Key, the video's background will be set to the background color selected in the "Settings" once exported. The exported video won't have a transparent background.
