Xovis — Adults, Children, Groups & Staff counting setup

Advanced Xovis setup for Adults, Children, Groups and Staff counting — scene configuration, height filters, staff exclusion, and Vemcount zone linking with math zone formula.

This guide covers the advanced Xovis configuration for setups requiring separate counting of Adults, Children, Groups, and Staff — used in retail environments with age-restricted products, family analytics, or compliance counting. Based on live production setup for Maslak Enza location (Xovis PC2SE, 290 cm mounting height).

When to use this setup

  • You need to count adults and children separately (e.g. telecoms store, toy shop, amusement park)

  • You need to exclude staff from visitor counts while still recording staff movements

  • You need group detection (people walking together counted as one unit)

Step 1 — License and sensor setup in Xovis

  1. Log in to the Xovis sensor web interface (via Vemcount Device Manager → Connect to Device, or directly via IP).

  2. Activate the appropriate license — 30-day trial or full production license.

  3. Configure General settings: set Region and Timezone correctly.

  4. Set the Network Identification name (e.g. "TR – Maslak Enza Entrance") and Group.

  5. Under People Attributes, set Tag position to the side where staff will be tagged (e.g. Left half for staff entering from the left).

  6. Set Mounting height (e.g. 290 cm) and verify against the Xovis product sheet for your model.

  7. In Image Settings: draw the floor mask and apply calibration.

  8. Enable Live Data Push (real-time data) — click pencil icon → Select Objects → Select all.

Step 2 — Scene configuration in Xovis (counting lines)

Create four separate counting line/zone configurations:

Adults

Minimum height: 130 cm · Enable gender recognition · Enable "Exclude staff"

Children

Maximum height: 130 cm · Enable gender recognition · Enable "Exclude staff"

Group

No height filter · Enable "Exclude staff"

Staff

In/Out counting WITHOUT staff exclusion — used to capture total staff movement for the math zone calculation

Tip: Draw an exclusion area on the floor slightly away from the counting line to improve accuracy at the detection boundary.

Step 3 — Initial Vemcount setup (before sensor is live)

  1. Create the Company, Location, and opening hours in Vemcount.

  2. Set opening hours (e.g. Monday–Sunday 10:00–20:00).

  3. You can create the zones now and link them to counting lines once the sensor is online (the lines appear ~15 minutes after saving the Xovis scene configuration).

Step 4 — Create and link zones in Vemcount

After ~15 minutes, go to the location in Vemcount → Zones and create the following:

Zone: Adults

Type: Entrance · Link to: Adults – Adults · Adults – [Location Name] Entrance · Adults – Adults Demographics

Zone: Children

Type: Entrance · Link to: Children – Children · Children – [Location Name] Entrance · Children – Children Demographics

Zone: Group

Type: Entrance · Link to: Group – Group · Group – [Location Name] Entrance

Zone: Staff

Type: Math Zone

Step 5 — Staff math zone formula

The Staff zone uses a math formula to calculate net staff movement by subtracting visitor counts from the total In/Out count:

Staff (In/Out without staff exclusion)
− Adults
− Children

This gives you the pure staff count after removing all visitor categories. Configure this in the Zone settings under the Math Zone type.

Step 6 — Verify all zones

After linking all zones, verify live data is flowing for each zone separately. Check that:

  • Adults zone shows only visitors ≥ 130 cm (staff excluded)

  • Children zone shows only visitors < 130 cm (staff excluded)

  • Group zone aggregates groups correctly

  • Staff zone shows realistic staff movement numbers
