Tax ID and VAT settings (Account → Tax ID)

The Tax ID page (Account → Tax ID on https://pro.oblist.com) collects tax registration and nexus information for your business based on your country (which must be set first under Account → Billing Info).

1. Why the platform asks for this

  • Compliance: selling across regions often requires correct VAT / GST / sales tax registration data.

  • Accurate documents: your legal entity and tax details on Account → Billing Info and Tax ID feed how invoices and tax treatment are determined for your activity on the platform.

  • EU VAT numbers can be checked online (VIES or fallbacks); the UI shows validation status so you can fix formatting or mismatches before saving.

The form adapts by jurisdiction (EU, US, UK, Canada, India, other)—fields you see match your billing country.

2. What you should complete

Typical sections (exact labels depend on your country):

  • Business / entity type (where required).

  • EU: VAT registered or not, main VAT number, optional other EU registrations, or “not subject to VAT” when applicable.

  • US: EIN/TIN and, when relevant, state nexus rows (collecting tax or not per state).

  • UK / Canada / India / other: country-specific numbers and declarations as shown.

If the page says you must set your country in Billing Info first, open Account → Billing Info, save a valid country, then return to Tax ID.

3. Impact on invoices

  • Legal entity name from Billing Info is what the UI states appears on invoices.

  • Tax ID / VAT data helps the platform apply the correct tax identity to your seller record so customer-facing and vendor-side documents align with regulations.

  • If numbers are missing or invalid where they are mandatory, you may be blocked from saving until the form is consistent.

This article does not replace accounting advice; for edge cases (multiple establishments, OSS, etc.), speak to your tax adviser and copy vendors@oblist.com on anything the form cannot represent.
