Encrypted backups are a Pro feature. Path: Chat History Drawer → Profile → Backup Chat History.
How they work: Your data is encrypted on your device with a password only you control. The encrypted backup is uploaded in chunks. You can later download and restore it on another logged-in environment, either overwriting or merging your history.
Encrypted backups can preserve and restore chat history across supported environments, including web, mobile browser/PWA, APK, desktop, and the iOS/Android App Store apps, only if you created a backup before the data was lost. Venice cannot read or recover a backup without your password. A lost password means the backup cannot be recovered.
Note: Agentic chat and video generations are not currently included in encrypted backups and will not be restored. Local media files, such as images and videos stored on your device, are also not included in encrypted backups. These files are stored locally for privacy reasons, and clearing your browser cache or cookies will delete them permanently as no server-side copy exists. To avoid losing important media, consider storing them separately.
You can keep up to 5 concurrent backups, and backups expire after 90 days. If you encounter issues during restoration, such as "invalid password" errors, these may result from merge/decrypt edge cases rather than an incorrect password. To resolve this, try using the "Overwrite" option instead of "Merge," create a fresh backup with significant changes to the source history, and ensure you restore the most recent backup. Additionally, check for formatting issues in your password, such as trailing spaces or hidden newlines.
