How to Publish the Schedule

Shifts you create or apply stay hidden from staff until you Publish them — this article walks you through publishing assigned shifts and open shifts for any date range.

Before you start

  • You need a Scheduler or Administrator role. If you don't see the Publish Shifts button, ask an admin to check your permissions — see How to Manage User Permissions.

  • Draft shifts appear with a strikethrough line on the schedule so you can spot what still needs to be published.

  • Publishing is tied to your current view (e.g., Day, Week, Month). The positions and date range you're looking at determine which shifts get published — adjust your filters before you start if you only want to publish for specific positions.

Publish shifts

In the left sidebar, click Schedule.

  1. Set your view to Day, Week, or Month and select the date range you want to publish.

  2. If you only want to publish specific positions, apply your position filters now.

  3. Click Publish Shifts in the top right corner.

  4. A window appears with two options — check one or both:

    • Assigned unpublished shifts — shifts already assigned to a specific staff member.

    • Open shifts — shifts with no assigned worker, available for staff to pick up.

  5. Click Publish.

Staff will see the published shifts the next time they open the Veras app. Veras does not send a push notification when you publish.

Note: If you want shifts to publish automatically as soon as they're created, an admin can turn on Auto Publish Shifts in your community's advanced settings on the Community Settings page.

Note: To undo a publish, see How to Un-Publish Shifts.

Common questions

Q: What's the difference between assigned shifts and open shifts in the publish window?

A: Assigned shifts are attached to a specific staff member. Open shifts have no assigned worker — publishing them makes them visible in the Veras app so eligible staff can request them. You can publish both types at the same time by checking both options.

Q: Will staff get a notification when I publish?

A: No. Veras does not send a push notification when you publish shifts. Staff see their new shifts the next time they open the Veras app.

Q: I published the wrong shifts. How do I undo it?

A: Use How to Un-Publish Shifts to revert published shifts back to drafts. Make your corrections, then publish again.

Q: I published the schedule but some shifts still show as a draft. Why?

A: Your position filters were likely active when you published — only the positions you were viewing got included. Clear your filters and publish again to catch the remaining shifts.

Q: What is Auto Publish Shifts?

A: When Auto Publish Shifts is turned on in your Community Settings, shifts are published automatically as soon as they're created — they skip the draft state entirely. An admin can enable this in the community's advanced settings.
