How to stream files from OBS
Updated over a week ago

OBS Studio is a free and open-source software suite for recording and live streaming. OBS provides real-time source and device capture, scene composition, encoding, recording, and broadcasting.

Need to stream a file to multiple social media destinations with Videolinq? Here is how to set this up:

Step 1:

Download and install OBS on your computer.

Step 2:

Add a media source to OBS.

Step 3:

Edit the media source and point to a live video source or to a recorded video file, placed on your computer. The image below shows recorded media.

Step 4:

Open the Videolinq channel page. Click "Add Source" and RTMP as a video source. Copy from the Encoder tab RTMP path and stream key.

Step 5:

In OBS click on "Settings" (lower right side), and on the "Stream" tab to the left. Drop down the "Service" tab to select "Custom...". Paste the Videolinq RTMP path and stream key.

Step 6:

Click on the "Output" tab to the left, select the "Advanced" mode, and configure the stream bitrate to 4000 KBps. Add keyframes every 2 seconds, and set the CPU Usage Preset to "Medium" to reduce computer resources. In the "Audio" tab you can adjust the audio bitrate to 128 KBps. Last, click on the "Video" tab to the left and select the stream resolution. Save this configuration.

Step 7:

Click on "Start Streaming". Wait till you see the video in the Videolinq preview player. Push "Go Live". The Videolinq channel is active. Depending on the Videolinq plan type, create a player and or destinations.

Tips & Tricks: When setting up multiple media sources in OBS (and pointing each record to another video source) you can "mix" these resources during the broadcast and provide your audience with a rich program built from multiple live or file sources, without stopping the live stream.
