User-friendliness was always at the forefront of the development of our products. That is why we have made the installation and activation of Vimcar Fleet as easy as possible. In these instructions you will find all the information you need to get started. Please note: Only when you install the device and activate the logbook in Vimcar Fleet can the respective drivers use the logbook. An administrator must also activate the route documentation for pool vehicles. GPS live tracking and the motion detector work automatically after installation.
What hardware do you have?
If you are installing an OBD connector, please follow the instructions for installing the Vimcar Dongle.
If you are installing the Vimcar Box, start the instructions for installing the Vimcar Box.
Caution! You can only install and activate the logbook and route documentation as administrator in Vimcar Fleet. If you do not have access to the software, please contact your company's vehicle administration department.
Mounting and installing the Vimcar Dongle
The vehicle's engine must be switched off before installation.
Insert the plug straight and with sufficient pressure.
After insertion, the LED light on the plug should light up.
If you want to use a logbook, write down the vehicle's mileage now. You will need the exact mileage in order to activate the logbook in Vimcar Fleet.
After plugging in the OBD connector, please wait 3 minutes before starting the engine. Only take a test drive after you have completed the activation in Vimcar Fleet so that the odometer reading does not deviate.
Now continue to follow the instructions from activating the logbook and route documentation.
Mounting and installing the Vimcar Box
The Vimcar Box offers you a technical alternative to our conventional OBD connector and can also be installed independently. Installation is carried out with a simple connection to your vehicle's jump-start device. There is an adhesive surface on the device that you can use to attach it permanently. The connection to the jump starter varies depending on the vehicle model, please follow the manufacturer's recommendations (operating instructions).
π‘ Please note: Due to the large number of vehicle types and models, it is not possible to provide generalised information on the installation of the Vimcar Box. If in doubt, please contact your trusted authorised workshop.
Similar to the Vimcar Dongle, the unit has its own ID number, which you enter in your user account when creating your vehicle. In order to do so, you can use the same access data as usual.
To install the telematics box you need:
1 x telematics box
1 x rubber glove
1 x alcohol wipe
1 x hexagon socket spanner or square-head spanner (please use an insulated tool)
π‘ Installation is at your own risk. If you are unclear about any steps or have any uncertainties, please contact a specialist workshop you trust.

Activation of logbook & route documentation
Log in to your Vimcar Fleet account at fleet.vimcar.com.
Create the vehicle in the "Vehicles" menu area using the blue plus symbol in the top right-hand corner. Enter all the information and the previously noted mileage. Your IMEI number (plug ID) was sent to you with the device.
Note: Be sure to enter the correct vehicle type. You can differentiate between company and pool vehicles. Pool vehicles are vehicles that are used by several employees. Company cars are only driven by individuals.
Tick the box "Activate logbook" and/or "Activate route documentation". Historical route tracking (route documentation) is now fully activated.

In order for a driver who is to use the logbook to be able to see it in the logbook app, you must create them as a user. Go to the "User" menu area and create the driver using the blue plus symbol.
Now link the user to the vehicle so that they can see the vehicle in their logbook app. To do this, click on "Grant access" for all vehicles for which the driver must keep a logbook.
