When campaign participants share their unique links on Facebook you want their Facebook posts to look nice. You can customize the image, title, and description that is displayed on the Facebook post by editing the Open Graph Settings.

You can customize the Open Graph Settings from the campaign widgets (if your campaign is created with the Milestone Referral, e-Commerce Referral, Online to Offline or Refer a Friend template) or in the Viral Loops Pages Builder, if you are using Viral Loops Pages.

Facebook sharing from the campaign widgets

You can set the Open Graph Settings for your campaign by editing your campaign widgets:

  • The Form Widget (for the Milestone Referral and Refer a Friend template)

  • The In-app Referral Widget (for the e-Commerce Referral, Online to Offline, Refer a Friend templates)

If you already have some Open Graph Settings that you want to update, it usually takes some time for Facebook to update what it's showing to its users but you can override this delay.

Visit your campaign page and from the relevant widget, copy your unique link. The format will be similar to this (but might be shorter): https://vrlps.co/a?pt=RZc_HUT8zd3JDOssDk81ossZoEI&referralCode=By8EdyygZ&refSource=copy

Visit Facebook Sharing Debugger, paste the unique link and click Debug: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/

This will get the latest details and refresh what is shown when people are sharing their unique link on Facebook.

The Facebook Sharing Debugger will also show you what your current Open Graph Settings are. To check, just input your sharing link and press the "Scrape again" button.

Using Viral Loops Pages

If you are using Viral Loops Pages, you can customize the Open Graph Settings of your campaign directly in the Viral Loops Pages Builder (this applies to all the Viral Loops templates that offer the Viral Loops pages option).

First go to "edit" of the campaign, then on the installation step of the campaign wizard click on "edit campaign" then:

Go to Settings --> Social media:

There, you can see all the available Open Graph settings and edit them according to your needs:

These settings apply when you share the campaign URL as well as the unique referral link on Facebook.

Don't forget that it usually takes some time for Facebook to update what it's showing to its users.

Custom Open Graph Settings

If your campaign is installed in your own website (not Viral Loops Pages) and you already have Open Graph Tags installed (your developer will know!) then make sure to remove them from the campaign page to avoid conflicts between those settings and the ones you set up at Viral Loops.

Unsupported templates

There is currently no way to edit the Open Graph Settings for a campaign created with the Tempting Giveaway, Leaderboard Giveaway, Startup Pre-launch or the Altruistic Referral template.

In those cases you have to use custom Open Graph Tags in the HTML of your website. Your developer should be able to help you with those.

Note: Facebook might have limitations (especially for the description field) not only based on the number of characters but also for the use of URLs, emojis special characters etc. that might affect the final result of the Open Graph. In such cases we suggest to stick to the use of regular text and search the Facebook Knowledge Base for details or address to a developer for further assistance.
