What is Auto-Tagging?
Auto-Tagging is a custom feature we built to allow learners to receive notifications for events based on the events they actually choose to attend.
Note: Auto-tagging works best with recurring events.
Here's a sample use case:
Let's say your program involves multiple small group sessions.
You want your learners to see all the possible group sessions that are being run so they can choose to attend the one(s) that work best for them (either because of the schedule, the facilitator, etc.).
With auto-tagging, you can make all of these sessions visible to your learners, from which they can pick which sessions they'd like to attend.
Let's say you created an event - Small Group A - and added the auto-tag function and selected the tag "Small Group A." You also added a 30 min. reminder for this event.
While no notification would go out for the first session of that event, any learner that chose to attend that event would get automatically tagged in Virtually as "Small Group A." Because of that, they'd receive the 30 min. reminder for all future occurrences of this specific event.
Ultimately, auto-tagging enables learners to get notified about events they want, and not about ones they don't.
How Does Auto Tagging Work in Virtually
When Auto-Tagging is enabled for your Virtually account, you'll see a link that says 'Add auto-tagging to attendees' in the guest list section of the of the event creation dialog:
When you click that link, you'll have the opportunity to select the specific tags to auto-tag attendees of this event with. Notice that the guests still say 'Entire Organization,' because the idea is that these are events that are open to everyone.
Once you've selected your auto-tag, choose the calendar you'd like you event to appear on and whether you'd like to send invites and/or add reminders:
Initially, the event you create will only appear on the calendar you selected.
Let's say 100 of your 368 total learners end up attending this event.
That means that those 100 learners will receive calendar invites and 10 min. notifications for the remaining occurrences of this specific event.
By attending that first event, they've essentially opted in to notifications for future occurrences of this event.
This helps prevent learner overwhelm by:
Not sending reminders to learners not interested in this event
Only sending reminders to learners that have expressed interest in a given event
