Can I marry someone who is in jail/incarcerated?
Can I marry someone who is in jail/incarcerated?

Describes the procedures

Updated over a week ago

Yes you can! Love is love, no matter the situation. The incarcerated person will need to have access to the internet in order to connect with their significant other and officiant on the special day. They will need to have access to both video and audio so they can fully participate in the wedding and make it legal.

Just like all other marriages, both parties will need to provide an ID when they are filling out the marriage license. For people currently incarcerated, this can sometimes be hard to get. Most of the time, the fiancé or family of the person can contact the jail and get a document that meets the requirements (name, picture, date of birth). If there are any snags along the way, though, we are here to help!
