Why wasn't every requested Baseline biomarker included?

The final Baseline Health Check may differ slightly from the original request because the Medicare-supported pathway includes an independent clinical review.

In most cases, the requested Baseline Health Check is issued as submitted.

Occasionally, however, the final pathology request may differ from the original request.

This is a normal part of the Medicare-supported pathway and does not necessarily indicate that there is a problem with your referral.

Why might this happen?

There are two main reasons.

1. Independent clinical review

The Baseline Health Check follows Vively's Medicare-supported pathology pathway.

Before a pathology request is issued, the consulting doctor independently reviews the requested Baseline Health Check and exercises their own clinical judgement.

Where clinically appropriate, the consulting doctor may modify the requested pathology panel.

If any changes are made, these will be reflected in the final pathology request.

2. Medicare funding rules

The Medicare-supported pathway operates within the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

Some Medicare-funded pathology items have specific eligibility requirements or frequency restrictions. As a result, certain biomarkers may not be included on every repeat Baseline Health Check, even where they were included previously. Department of Health

Can I still request those biomarkers?

Yes.

If a biomarker cannot be included through the Medicare-supported pathway, it can often still be requested through the private-pay pathway, where clinically appropriate.

This allows practitioners to build a personalised pathology request while still using the Baseline Health Check as the foundation.

Will I know if changes were made?

Yes.

If the consulting doctor makes any changes during their independent clinical review, the final pathology request will reflect those changes.

The pathology results you receive will correspond to the tests that were ultimately requested.

Frequently asked questions

Does this happen often?

No.

Most Baseline Health Check requests proceed as originally requested.

Where changes do occur, they are generally the result of the consulting doctor's independent clinical judgement or Medicare funding requirements.

If I need a specific biomarker, what should I do?

You can add additional private-pay biomarkers when creating a custom pathology panel.

This provides greater flexibility where particular biomarkers are required outside the Medicare-supported pathway.

Does this affect the pathology results?

No.

Your client will receive results for all biomarkers included in the final pathology request, and those results will be securely delivered to both your Practitioner Dashboard and your client's Vively app.
