MediaRadar has partnered with VideoAmp to provide TV audience ratings within MediaRadar 360, allowing you to analyze advertising activity alongside audience measurement data.
VideoAmp ratings help you evaluate TV advertising performance, understand audience reach, and analyze advertising investments across national and local television.
VideoAmp will replace Nielsen as MediaRadar's TV ratings provider beginning January 1, 2027.
What VideoAmp Ratings Are Available?
VideoAmp provides both Commercial and Program Average TV ratings across national and local television.
Ratings are available for the following TV media types:
Network TV
Spanish Language Network TV
Cable TV
Spot TV
Ratings Types and Viewing Streams
VideoAmp offers two ratings types, each with different viewing streams.
Ratings Type | Available Viewing Streams |
Commercial | Live + 3 Days, Live + 7 Days |
Program Average | Live, Live + Same Day, Live + 3 Days, Live + 7 Days |
These viewing streams allow you to analyze audience ratings based on when television content was viewed, including live viewing and viewing that occurred within a specified number of days after the original broadcast.
Please Note: Syndicated ratings and Average Quarter Hour (AQH) ratings are not currently available through VideoAmp.
Available Ratings Metrics
VideoAmp supports the same ratings metrics currently available within MediaRadar 360, including:
GRP: Gross Rating Points
TV IMP: Television Impressions
CPP: Cost Per Point
CPM: Cost Per Thousand Impressions
National GRP: National Gross Rating Points
GRPE, IMPE, CPPE, and CPME: Estimated ratings metrics
These metrics can be incorporated into Explore reports to analyze audience performance alongside advertising activity and estimated expenditures.
Demographic Coverage
VideoAmp provides audience ratings across adult and under-18 demographics, including general-market, Hispanic, and African-American audiences.
Most demographic options are similar to those previously available through Nielsen, with a few important differences.
Adults: Age and gender breakouts are available for adults ages 18 and older, including commonly used demographics such as Adults 18–34, Adults 18–49, and Adults 25–54.
Children and Teens (Under 18): Ratings are available for persons ages 0–3, 4–6, 7–9, 10–12, 13–15, and 16–17. These demographics include all persons within each age group, without separate male or female breakouts.
Hispanic and African-American Audiences: Total Households and Total Persons ratings are available. Additional age and gender breakouts are not currently supported for these audience groups.
VideoAmp's under-18 age groupings differ from those previously available through Nielsen, so certain demographic selections may not have a direct equivalent.
When creating an Explore report, available demographic selections are displayed together, allowing you to include multiple audience groups within a single report.
How to Create a VideoAmp Ratings Report in Explore
VideoAmp ratings use the same general reporting functionality as existing TV ratings reports in MediaRadar 360.
To create a report:
Click Explore, located in the left-side menu, then choose Create New Report.
Profile Tab
Select a Profile to use (choose to Link a profile, or Populate from a profile), or choose None to run a new report from scratch.
Layout Tab
Add the appropriate TV ratings metrics to your report.
Select the demographic audiences you want to analyze.
Under the Selected Sorts & Measures section located on the right, select VideoAmp as your ratings provider.
Choose your preferred ratings type: Commercial or Program Average.
Select the available Viewing Stream you would like to include in your report.
Media/Markets Tab
Select the TV media you want to analyze: Network TV, Spanish Language Network TV, Cable TV, or Spot TV.
Complete any additional report selections, including advertisers, categories, and time period(s).
Run your report to view the results.
VideoAmp ratings will appear alongside the other selected reporting dimensions and metrics.
You can include multiple demographic audiences in a single report, making it easier to evaluate audience performance without creating separate reports for each demographic group.
Please Note: VideoAmp ratings are available only to users whose accounts have been enabled for this data. Available media and market coverage may vary based on your account's access.
How to Update an Existing Nielsen Ratings Report
If you currently use Nielsen ratings in Explore, you can create a VideoAmp version of an existing report without rebuilding all of your report selections.
To update a report:
Click Explore, located in the left-side menu, then choose View Report Specs.
Locate the report specs for the existing Nielsen ratings report you want to replicate.
Click on the 3-Dot Action menu located to the right, then choose Clone.
Open the cloned report's configuration, go to the Layout Tab, and change the ratings provider from Nielsen to VideoAmp.
Reselect your preferred demographics, ratings metrics, and viewing stream.
Review the report configuration and run your updated report.
Important: Changing the ratings provider automatically resets the ratings-specific selections within the report.
Other report settings, including selected advertisers, brands, and reporting periods, will remain intact.
Because VideoAmp and Nielsen offer different ratings types, streams, and demographic options, some existing Nielsen report configurations may need to be adjusted.
Can Nielsen and VideoAmp Ratings Be Included in the Same Report?
No. Nielsen and VideoAmp ratings cannot be combined within a single Explore report.
If your account has access to both providers during the transition period, you can create and run separate reports using each provider.
Existing Nielsen ratings reports will continue to function through December 31, 2026. Beginning January 1, 2027, Nielsen ratings will no longer be available through MediaRadar.
Historical Coverage and Data Availability
VideoAmp ratings are available beginning January 1, 2024, allowing you to analyze historical audience performance and advertising trends.
VideoAmp ratings are published as final data, with the following availability schedule:
Historical Coverage: January 1, 2024, forward.
Data Availability: Approximately 19 days after the original broadcast date.
Update Frequency: Monday through Friday.
Data Status: Final ratings only. Preliminary or overnight ratings are not currently available.
VideoAmp may occasionally restate previously delivered ratings data to account for updated or corrected information.
Important Considerations
When working with VideoAmp ratings, keep the following in mind:
VideoAmp and Nielsen use different audience measurement methodologies, so ratings results may differ between providers.
Certain Nielsen ratings types and demographic combinations may not have direct equivalents in VideoAmp.
Ratings for persons under 18 are available by age group, but gender-specific breakouts are not supported until age 18.
VideoAmp ratings are available only to users with the appropriate account access.
Historical VideoAmp data begins January 1, 2024.
Nielsen ratings will no longer be available through MediaRadar beginning January 1, 2027.
