Creating a Skill Building Workout

Written by Scott Berry

For Pro’s:

Open the Volley App: Access the app and navigate to your sport section for your designated sport (Platform Tennis, Padel, Pickleball, Tennis).

Create a New Workout:

  • Go to “My Workouts (Create & Play)” under the Personal section .

  • Click on “Create Workout” and then select “Skill Building.”

Workout Details

  • Name: Assign a unique name to the workout.

  • Short Description: Give a short Description for the workout.

  • Video Slug: Ensure this matches the workout name for consistency and easy reference

    1. Volley will replace this later after your video is uploaded

    2. Instructions

  • Offer 3-4 quick tips to help players succeed in the workout, focusing on technique, player positioning, and mindset.

Defaults Configuration

  1. Shots per Set: Specify the number of shots the Trainer will deliver before the player gets a quick break

  2. Set: Clarify how many sets the player should do each time they run the drill

  3. Rate: Set the pace at which the Trainer will deliver shots.

  4. Time Between Sets: Determine the rest interval players will have between sets to manage fatigue and recovery.

Workout Tags (Helps with players finding your workout)

  • Featured: Leave blank

  • Player Position: Select the specific court areas where the player will be positioned.

  • Players: Indicate the number of players that can simultaneously participate in the workout.

  • Difficulty: Set the difficulty level appropriate to the player's league or skill level.

  • AI Games and Experimental Apps: Leave these options blank

  • Basic Mode: Leave blank

Add Shots:

  1. Click the "+" button to begin adding new shots to your workout.

    • Name the Shot: Enter a name for each shot to identify it easily during training.

    • Adjust Speed: Set the speed in MPH for the shot. You can introduce variance to the speed (+/- 5 MPH) to simulate more natural playing conditions, or set it to no variance to ensure consistent speed with each delivery.

    • Spin and Intensity: Choose the type of spin you want to apply and adjust the intensity of the spin. This setting influences how the ball behaves in the air and upon landing.

      1. Note: Not all spin intensity is available at top speeds

    • Aim: Determine the aim of each shot using degrees.

      1. Negative degrees aim the ball to the left side of the court (deuce side).

      2. Positive degrees direct the ball to the right side (ad side).

      3. Add variance to the aim (slight, moderate, or large) to change the accuracy range of each shot, or select no variance to maintain a fixed aim point.

    • Arc: Specify the arc in degrees to control how high or low the ball travels over the net. Adding slight variance here can make the ball arc slightly higher or lower, adding unpredictability to the shot.

    • Shot Padding: Adjust the pad setting to alter the timing between shots. This can slow down or maintain the rate at which shots are fed, based on the default speed rate already set.

    • Shot Order: Organize the sequence of the shots. You can set them to fire in a sequential order or choose to have them randomized to enhance the training challenge.

Position Settings

  • Height: Set the desired height for the trainer’s device up to a maximum of 87 inches, tailoring the shot trajectory.

  • Trainer Position: Specify the court position for the trainer unit.

  • Player Position: Designate where the player will stand, typically across the net from the trainer.

Save and Close:

  • Review all settings for accuracy. Once satisfied, click “Done” then "Save & Close" to finalize and save the workout setup.

Record a Video:

  • Create a 20-30 second video explaining and/or demonstrating the workout.

  • Ensure the video is recorded still, horizontally and that there is no background noise.

  • Upload the Video to a folder in Google Drive.

  • Share the Folder with the File(s) inside to the Volley team member, Dustin@getvolley.com.

  • Ensure the ‘Video Slug’ and Google Drive file name are identical. Omit “.mov” from the Google Drive file name.

Notify the Admin:

  • Send an email or a message to the Volley Team that you shared the video and the workout is completed.
