When you choose pickleball as your sport, the “Know Your Game” section takes players through an assessment of 12 core pickleball skills: forehand and backhand drives, drops, returns, dinks, as well as serves and smashes. Each skill receives a rating on Volley’s proprietary 100–600 scale, powered by Volley’s scoring engine.
After completing the assessment, results will be available within 1 business day.
In addition to receiving ratings for all 12 skills, Volley compares a player’s technique against either a Volley Pro or a pro from your club. Volley’s AI-powered feedback system uses comparison clips and joint metrics to deliver personalized insights, showing players what they did well and highlighting areas for improvement.
The assessment experience is designed to guide training with purpose, helping players improve specific skills instead of simply hitting balls without direction.
After completing an assessment, players can either:
Take another assessment that counts toward their skill index, or
Complete a practice assessment focused on the skills that need the most improvement.
Get Started
Press the “Know Your Game” button, then press Play.
Choose one of the skills you'd like to work on, or update your full rating at once using the button at the bottom of the screen.
Follow the on-screen instructions carefully. It is important to place the Volley Trainer in the correct position and hit the correct shot type or else the assessment will be considered non-compliant.
These steps are for pickleball only. Tennis assessments, Padel assessments and Platform tennis assessments are not fully released to all clubs.
The Volley team is working toward feature parity across tennis, padel, and platform tennis. At this time, skill ratings are only available for pickleball.
