With Volunteero’s revolutionary instant messaging chat feature you can create a community for your volunteers in a space that is; safe, secure and supported by your organisation.

Email open rates are at an all time low and declining, but push notifications and instant messages remain strong.

For more information on getting started with the feature- visit our help centre for a range of articles and guides here.

Because we get to work with such a range of amazing organisations, we also then get to hear so many amazing use cases and approaches for our features.

Here are some creative and functional ways you can use our chat feature when managing your volunteers, no matter how big or small your organisation is.

  1. Send out important announcements and updates to all volunteers simultaneously. This may include weather warnings, road closures or updates to the organisation. Create an announcements chat to all volunteers following the steps in this guide.

  2. Use group chats to facilitate discussions and brainstorming sessions among volunteers. We’ve seen this work really well for volunteers generating ideas for fundraising opportunities.

  3. Create smaller group chats for individual roles and encourage your volunteers to share advice, learning and feedback with each other.

  4. Allow your volunteers to self-manage their shifts, requesting cover and offering to help out on different missions. You can also use it to broadcast out shift availability to your volunteers by sharing available time slots and prompting volunteers to choose their missions on the app!

  5. Offer a centralised and dedicated space for feedback and quotes. No more searching through inboxes, your feedback will all be logged in chat messages.

  6. Provide volunteers with a platform to ask questions and seek clarifications regarding their tasks or responsibilities.

  7. Create separate chat groups based on different volunteer roles or areas of expertise to enable focused discussions and collaboration.

  8. Set up a dedicated chat channel for volunteer recognition, allowing volunteers to share their achievements or express gratitude to their fellow volunteers.

  9. Set up one-on-one chat sessions with volunteers to provide personalized guidance, support, or mentorship.

  10. Connect your volunteers, you can foster a sense of community by having volunteers introduce themselves either by words or emojis, build relationships and create connections.

Remember, when using the instant messenger chat for managing volunteers, ensure you communicate your organisation's expectations and guidelines to volunteers.
