Whether you need a visa or not, of course, depends on your nationality and your chosen destination. For some destinations, you won't need any at all, while in others you'll get one on arrival, depending on the entry regulations. If you need a visa, we highly recommend starting your research by getting in touch with the project coordinators of your volunteer program. Most of the times, they have some good advice, tips, and tricks for you.

Unless you are sure to be able to enter the country of your destination because you already have your visa, or you will not need any (e.g. you travel within the EU), we recommend you plan well in advance.

Obtaining a visa might take some time. For this reason, many volunteers start planning their trip up to one year before their departure. From our experience, a two or three months window is realistic for getting your visa done. In any case, we suggest having an up-to-date passport valid for six months after your departure date.

Tip - Check if you need a transit visa when you have flight connections in different countries.

Once you are set and know about the entry requirements, you can also get some help in obtaining the visas beforehand here.

Note: Volunteer World does NOT offer any assistance with visa procedures and is not providing any invitation letters. Your host organization will provide you best knowledge and assistance in this matter,

Disclaimer: There are no liability claims against Volunteer World if entry is not possible due to individual visa requirements.
