Are you wondering about the age requirement of a specific volunteer program? No worries, this article will answer all of your questions concerning the minimum and maximum age of the platform's volunteer programs.

Usually, the volunteer organisations on our platform can decide about the age requirement of their volunteer programs on their own. Whether there is a minimum age, you will find on the volunteer program's page below the subcategory "Program Requirements".

However, Volunteer World developed some age requirements based on legal and ethical standards. Please note that volunteer programs having an educational or childcare focus need to have a minimum age of at least 18 and no exemptions are granted.

Minimum age restrictions

If you are under 16 years old

We only offer a limited amount of volunteer programs for under 16-year-olds on our platform. However, if you  meet the program requirements your will definitely need the permission of your legal guardians.

Moreover, we strongly advise that the legal guardian accompanies the minor.

If you are under 18 years old

If you are under 18 and meet the program requirements you are more than welcome to apply for volunteer programs on our platform. Nevertheless please keep in mind that you will need a permission of your legal guardian to volunteer abroad.

We strongly advise the legal guardians to genuinely weigh up if the minor is prepared to volunteer abroad and in case of doubt accompany the minor.

If you are over 18 years old

The majority of our programs has a minimum age of 18 or older. If you are at least 18 years old you don't need a permission or accompaniment of your legal guardian. To participate in education and childcare volunteer programs you need to be at least 18 years old.

Maximum age restrictions

Our volunteer programs do not have an upper age limit, although we only recommend working abroad if you feel physically strong and highly motivated to volunteer work. The local project manager can give you detailed information about the typical age of a specific volunteer program.
