Testing and Adjusting Audio Before or After Joining a Meeting

Prerequisites:

  • A microphone, like the built-in one, a USB mic, or an inline mic on headphones.

  • Speakers or headphones.

How to Test and Adjust Audio (Windows, macOS, Linux):

1. Test Audio When Joining a Meeting:

  • Click "Test Speaker and Microphone" upon joining.

  • For speakers: If you can't hear the ringtone, switch speakers until you do.

  • For microphones: Speak, and if you don't hear a reply, switch mics until you do.

  • Click "Join with Computer Audio" after testing.

2. Test Audio Settings Before a Meeting:

  • In the Zoom desktop client, click your profile picture, then "Settings", and select the "Audio" tab.

  • Test and select different speakers and microphones as needed, and adjust volumes.

  • Consider enabling "Automatically adjust microphone volume" for optimal input levels.

Troubleshoot Your Microphone:

  • macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier: Ensure Zoom has access to the microphone in system permissions.

  • Windows 10: Check "Microphone privacy settings" to allow Zoom access.

Mobile Devices (Android, iOS):

Join a Test Meeting:

  • Visit Zoom's test page and join a test meeting to check audio settings.

  • During the first meeting, you'll need to permit Zoom to access your microphone.

  • Zoom automatically tests your device's speaker and microphone.

Join With Device Audio in a Meeting:

  • In the Zoom mobile app, start or join a meeting.

  • Choose audio connection options: Wifi/Cellular Data or Dial in.

  • Use the meeting controls to mute/unmute or switch audio methods.

General Tips for Troubleshooting Audio:

  • Ensure your audio devices are properly connected and not muted.

  • Check for Zoom’s permission to access audio devices in your system’s privacy settings.

  • For persistent issues, consider seeking help from Zoom support or community forums.
