How to practice your pronunciation using AI-powered activities

In your Voxy account, you have access to Smart Lessons, a holistic and engaging learning experience. Each lesson features a built-in speaking practice activity called AI Speaking Chat, where you can apply the vocabulary you've just learned.

For instance, the Smart Lesson "Voicemail: Confirming an Appointment" consists of four activities. The final one is the AI speaking practice, designed to evaluate your comprehension and reinforce what you studied in the previous steps (Listening Quiz, Spelling, and Meaning Match).

How it works:

  • Activate your microphone: Before starting, ensure your microphone is enabled so your voice can be recorded correctly.

Chat away: Start answering the questions by speaking in your study language.

Wait for the response: The page will process your answer before moving on to the next question.

At the end of the activity, you will receive personalized feedback on your performance. This ensures you complete your Smart Lesson by practicing all key skills: writing, listening, grammar, and speaking!

FAQ

  • Does this grade my accent or pronunciation?

    • A: No. The feedback focuses on the structure of your language (grammar and vocabulary). It tells you if what you said was correct, rather than how you pronounced it.

  • Why is there a delay before the Bot replies?

    • A: This is normal. There are several layers of AI working in the background: the system has to transcribe your audio, generate a smart response, and then convert that response back into audio. This "thinking time" ensures the reply is relevant to what you actually said.

  • What if I don't understand what the Bot is saying?

    • A: You can tap the Transcript button at any time to read the text version of the Bot’s audio.

  • Can I script my answer before recording?

    • A: There is no "Help Me Answer" button to give you a script. However, you can take a moment to think before you hit the record button. The goal is to practice spontaneous speaking.

  • What happens if the AI transcribes my voice incorrectly?

    • A: Background noise or unclear speech can sometimes affect transcription. You can see the transcription on screen. If it’s wrong, it’s a good opportunity to try speaking clearly again in the next turn, just like in a real phone call.
