PLEASE NOTE: This is a generic quick-start guide to creating a steer.
There are a lot of things in common with each steer type (from step 3 onwards), please be careful of which steer type you use, the type of question you want to ask and the number of options you have available.
Log into the Vypr platform and on the Menu Bar, click Add New.
A pop-up screen will appear, providing a list of steers to choose from.
If you're unsure what steer to use, you can select the guidance option. This will help you choose which steer best suits your use case.
3. Once you've decided on which steer to choose, click Create Steer. This will take you to the steer creation page.
4. On this page, you will be asked to give your steer a title. This is for internal use only, to help you identify the steer when reviewing results.
Step 1: The Question
In the ‘Question’ box, which is what Consumers will see, select one of the predefined questions from the drop down menu on the left. You can then tweak this to your liking in the 'Displayed Question' box on the right if required. Please note, questions have a limit of 120 characters.
We HIGHLY recommend that you use the ready-made questions contained within the drop-down menu. If you are not certain on how to ask the question, feel free to contact us directly and we will assist you straight away!
Below is an example of the question for a Yes/No Steer:
If you decide to select the question from the menu, then it will automatically populate the Displayed Question field, and this will allow you to make small edits, should you want to.
Step 2: Options
Each steer type has a number of options attached to them, and some have a minimum or maximum limit. For example a Simple Choice steer has a limit of three options.
Please bear in mind that you'll ALWAYS need an image and a description.
Once the image has been uploaded and you've typed in the matching description we can then move to the next step.
Please note that you are allowed a maximum of 100 characters for the text descriptions in the boxes.
Step 3: Segmentation
Demographics allow you to pre-filter your steers to a specific group of people. You can target the consumers on our panel by:
In addition, you can publish to any custom filter we have created for you to target a specific group of consumers.
Alternatively, you can skip this step and your steer will go to the whole group and you'll get 500 answers minimum (Number may vary depending on your licence).
Should you decide to use Demographics then you are guaranteed a minimum of 200 responses (Number may vary depending on your licence).
One thing to remember, only use Demographics if you require a specific target. There is no need to tick each box if you require all groups.
As a quick example, if you want to target Women aged between 18-34 who are employed, then this is what your Demographic filters should look like:
Be careful not to filter too much, as the steer may struggle to close. On the left, look out for this warning message:
Step 5: Start Date and Duration
In this step, you will be able to select the Start Date and Duration for your steer.
A steer closes as soon as the response rate is met. This is usually a few hours so please bear this in mind.
By default, the date set is the current day so once saved and published, it will go live straight away.
Step 6: Add to a Project
Projects are an easy way to group related steers. You can create a new project, or add to an existing steer.
Step 7: Be notified when the steer closes
You will automatically receive a notification into your email inbox when a steer you publish closes. If you do not wish to be notified simply uncheck the green tick box.
Once you have everything set then all you need to do is click the Save & Preview button.
This will take you to the final step of the steer creation process!
Step 6: Final Step
This is where you can PREVIEW your steer and interact with it as the consumer would. This is highly recommended as you can double-check things are correct and set up as you'd expect.
From here you can make five choices:
If you've previewed it and are not 100% happy, click Edit. This will take you back to the previous page.
Use the Save button for it to be saved as a Draft for later.
If you're happy with everything and want to publish it now then you can by clicking the Publish button.
If you're making two similar steers, you can duplicate the one you've created to save time. Simply click Duplicate. Don't forget to give the duplicated steer a different name!
Finally, if you're not happy with the steer you've created and wish to start from scratch, select Delete.
Please Note: once the steer has been published it can't be edited or deleted, even if the Start date is in the future.
You can Cancel the steer, but you will not be able to re-publish. You will need to duplicate if you wish to start again. Be aware that if you select Cancel all data collected will be lost.
