Subtitle translation vs voice translation and dubbing

Understand the difference between translated subtitles, translated transcripts, voice translation, dubbing, and original audio.

⚠️ Not currently available

WayinVideo does not currently offer voice translation or dubbing. Subtitle and transcript translation change on-screen or written text only — the original spoken audio stays unchanged. Voice translation and dubbing are planned for a future release.

Translation can mean several different things. Choose the workflow based on whether you want to change the text, the spoken voice, or both.

Translate subtitles

Use subtitle translation when viewers should read another language but still hear the original speaker.

  1. Open the clip in Video Editor.

  2. Open Subtitles.

  3. Review and correct the original subtitle text first.

  4. Choose the available translation option.

  5. Select the target language.

  6. Choose original, translated, or bilingual subtitle display.

  7. Review names, slang, numbers, product terms, and timing before export.

Changing subtitle text does not change the original spoken audio.

Translate a transcript

Transcript translation changes the written transcript or exported text. It is useful for notes, study, review, or reuse outside the video.

It does not automatically:

  • Replace the speaker's voice

  • Add a new voice track

  • Lip-sync another language

  • Change audio already present in the source video

Voice translation or dubbing

Voice translation or dubbing creates or replaces spoken audio in another language. It is a separate workflow from subtitle translation.

WayinVideo does not currently offer voice translation or dubbing. Subtitle and transcript translation change text only — the original speaker's voice always remains in the video. Voice translation and dubbing are planned for a future release.

Until then, the recommended workflow is:

  1. Correct and translate the subtitles (or the transcript) as described above.

  2. Choose translated or bilingual subtitle display.

  3. Keep the original audio track enabled.

  4. If you need a spoken voice in another language, export the translated subtitles as SRT and use them in an external dubbing workflow.

If the wrong language was detected

Before regenerating:

  • Confirm the source language selected for the task.

  • Check whether the video contains more than one language.

  • Review whether music, noise, overlapping speakers, or a strong accent affected detection.

  • Correct the original transcript or subtitle text first when possible.

  • Confirm the target language before starting a new translation.

Regenerating a translation may create a new AI task and may use credits again. If the previous task failed without delivering a completed result, see How credits work.

If the translation is inaccurate

Review and manually correct:

  • Names and brand terms

  • Slang, jokes, idioms, and cultural references

  • Numbers, dates, prices, and measurements

  • Technical or industry vocabulary

  • Lines with multiple speakers

  • Mixed-language sections

Improving the original transcript first usually gives the translation a clearer source.

Before export

Play the complete clip and confirm:

  • The correct subtitle language is displayed.

  • Original, translated, or bilingual mode is selected as intended.

  • Subtitle timing still matches the speech.

  • The original audio remains audible.

  • Names and key terminology are correct.
