Heritage Map - How to Use

Create a family tree that clients can reference when drafting a plan

The interactive Heritage Map allows advisors to simply add a client’s family members to create a family tree visual that you can walk through in detail with your clients. Deepen conversations about legacy planning with your clients by understanding family dynamics and identifying tax efficient ways to transfer assets to beneficiaries.

The Heritage Map tool allows you to build a comprehensive overview of your clients' immediate and extended family. Any family members added can easily be referenced by clients when drafting their estate plans.

Heritage Map Can Help You:

  • Understand family dynamics in a granular way, allowing your client's family to better anticipate potential conflicts or challenges that might arise from estate planning

  • Determine the most tax efficient way to transfer assets, because tax rules may differ based on whether assets are passed to a spouse, children, grandchildren, or other family members

  • Provide quality a visual aid to your client, adding value to encourage productive conversations around your client's legacy and how their estate plan informs it

How to Use the Heritage Map

You can access the Heritage Map in the following ways:

  1. From the Left-Hand Menu:

    • Click on “Heritage Map” in the side navigation panel.

    • From the top of the screen: select a client from the dropdown or client list.

  2. From the Client Profile:

    • Open a Client Profile.

    • Navigate to the “Heritage Map” tab among the profile sections.

  3. Adding Family Members

    You can add the following relationships to the Heritage Map:

    • Partners/Spouses

    • Siblings

    • Children

    • Nieces/Nephews

    • Grandchildren

    To add a family member:

    • Click the “+ Add” button under the appropriate category.

    • Continue adding as needed to build out the family structure.
