On EstateFlow, if you see $0 for state estate tax, this is likely due to your client residing in a state that does not have a state estate tax. Below are a list of states that have state estate tax:
Connecticut
District of Columbia (D.C.)
Hawaii
Illinois
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New York
Oregon
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington
Each state with an estate tax has a specific exemption amount or threshold. This is the value an estate can have before it is subject to any state-level tax. If the total value of a person's estate is at or below this threshold, no state estate tax is owed.
If your client does live in a state that has an estate tax, check to see if you've updated your client's correct state of residence in Client Settings to confirm whether their estate will be subject to state estate tax.
To update a client's state of residence in Client Settings:
Log in to your Wealth.com account
Click on the client's profile
In the top right corner, click on Client Settings
In the Basic Info tab, choose the correct state in which your client resides
You should see a new tab appear called State Estate Tax Assumptions. This means your client's state of residence will be taken into consideration and we will calculate if state estate tax is applicable in the EstateFlow calculations.
