As an advisor, maintaining an accurate Balance Sheet is essential for understanding how a client’s affairs are organized and identifying where legal or financial adjustments are needed.
How to Locate the Balance Sheet
To view or edit a client's financial profile:
Search for and select the Client Profile.
In the side-view navigation bar, click on Balance Sheet.
Setup Options
You can use multiple creation methods. For example, you can link an integration first, use Ester to scan a brokerage account, and manually create assets as well.
Option | Best For | What It Does |
Connect Integration | Importing accounts from a supported custodian or portfolio partner. | Automatically pulls live account information and ownership details to populate the balance sheet |
Upload Financial Documents | Extracting data from statements using AI. | Uses Ester to scan PDFs, Excel, or CSV files and automatically generate balance sheet line items. |
Upload Template | Creating a large volume of assets in bulk. | Uses a pre-formatted Excel spreadsheet to upload accounts and ownership information to populate the balance sheet. |
Add Manually | Adding a small number of items or making precise edits. | Opens a side drawer to let you type in asset details one item at a time. |
Option 1: Connect an integration
Use this option to automatically sync account data from a supported partner.
Select Connect Integration.
If a connection is already active for your firm, follow the prompts to complete the import.
If no connection exists yet, you will be directed to Settings > Integrations to link an account.
Once imported, review the balance sheet items for accuracy.
Option 2: Financial Document Extraction by Ester
You can upload a PDF, Excel, or CSV of financial statements and client balance sheets and Ester will identify key details such as:
Account or asset type
Asset name
Current Value
Select Upload Financial Documents.
Choose your file source:
Upload New: Select a file directly from your computer.
Select From Vault: Choose a supported file already saved in the client's document Vault.
Upload one or more supported file types: PDF statements, Excel files (.xlsx), or CSV files. You can upload multiple documents at once (for example, a brokerage statement and a balance sheet in the same batch).
Select Proceed for Ester to begin analyzing the documents.
Ester will identify key details such as: account or asset type, asset name, current value.
You can make edits on the review screen before confirming.
Note: All assets are imported with ownership set to Unassigned. Use the Bulk Edit Ownership button on the Balance Sheet to assign ownership after import.
After you have confirmed the information, the balance sheet will populate accordingly. You will assign ownership as a separate step.
Option 3: Upload the balance sheet template
select Upload Template.
Click the link in the pop-up window to download the sample spreadsheet template.
Fill out the spreadsheet carefully. Do not change, rename, or remove any of the required worksheet tabs (People, Entities, Trusts, Assets, Asset Ownership).
Save the completed file.
Upload the file in the template window and wait a few minutes for the system to process the records.
Option 4: Manual Entry
Choose this option to input individual assets or liabilities one by one.
Select Manual Entry from the dropdown.
Follow the prompts to enter asset type (required), asset display name (required), estimated value, specific ownership details, and beneficiary designations.
