To ensure your data is persisted and calculations are accurate, the Tax Planning tool uses a Two-Step Saving process. Follow this guide to make sure your strategies and scenarios are always up to date.
The Quick Save (30 Seconds)
Inside a Strategy: Click Save Strategy (or Apply Changes & Recalculate) before closing the pop-up.
On the Main Page: Click Save Changes in the top header.
If Prompted: If a warning appears about unsaved work, always click Save.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is "Save Strategy" sometimes locked or disabled?
For complex strategies (especially Roth Conversions), the system must run a full calculation before it can validate your inputs and enable the save button.
The Fix: Move from the Input tab to the Visualizations, Schedule, or Results tab. Once the results are generated, the Save Strategy button will unlock.
Does the tool save automatically while I type?
Not entirely. While some edits may be "staged" temporarily, your work is only fully committed to the database when you click the manual Save actions. Before you navigate to another tab, you will be prompted to Save Changes.
If I close a strategy window without saving, is my data kept?
No. To be safe, always click the Save Strategy button within the modal before exiting.
Troubleshooting
Issue: The "Save Changes" button is greyed out
Check for changes: Ensure you have actually modified a value. If no changes are detected, the button remains inactive.
Calculation check: If you just added a strategy, ensure you followed the "Quick Tip" below to trigger the calculation.
Issue: You see an "Unsaved Changes" warning
If you want to keep your work, click Save in the warning modal.
If you click Discard Changes, all edits made since your last save will be permanently removed.
Quick Tip for Strategy Saving: If the Save button is disabled inside a strategy:
Open the strategy’s Results/Visualizations tab.
Wait 1–2 seconds for calculations to finish.
Click Save Strategy.
Once back on the main page, click Save Changes at the top.
