Best Practices: Amendments, Codicils and Restatements
Amendments and codicils — To ensure the latest decisions from amendments or codicils are captured by Ester, please combine the original document and the amendment(s) into a single PDF before uploading. Ensure the amendments are included in chronological order (e.g. do first amendment, second amendment, third amendment). Ester will recognize the latest decisions from amendments in the document summarization.
Trust restatements — Upload only the restatement document. Do not include the original trust. Ester can process a standalone restatements.
Pour-Over Wills — These can be uploaded and extracted on their own without the associated trust document.
Best Practices for Multiple Documents
You can upload a single PDF containing multiple document types (e.g., a Trust and a Pour-Over Will together) to the Vault. When the document has been uploaded to the Vault, ensure the Estate Planning category is selected, and choose the Multiple Documents (Combined Doc) sub-category. When Multiple Documents (Combined Doc) is selected as a sub-category, Ester will automatically detect and separate the individual document types for your confirmation before running the analysis.
