Send form entries to MailerLite

Every form entry on your WeInc site where the visitor opted in adds them to a MailerLite group.

Written by Umair Ali

Connect MailerLite to your WeInc site and people who opt in on your forms are added to a MailerLite group.

What it does

  • When an entry has an email address and the visitor ticked a marketing opt-in box, WeInc adds them to MailerLite as an active subscriber in the group you choose. First and last name are filled in when the form has them.

  • If the visitor did not opt in, nothing is sent to MailerLite. Every MailerLite subscriber is a marketing contact, so WeInc never adds anyone without their opt-in.

  • This applies to every form on the site.

Who goes on your list

WeInc only adds someone to a marketing list if they ticked a marketing opt-in box on your form. WeInc counts a box as an opt-in when it is ticked and its field name mentions things like consent, subscribe, newsletter, marketing, opt-in, mailing list or email updates. A box like "I agree to the terms" does not count. If your form has no such box, ask the AI in the builder to add a newsletter opt-in checkbox to it.

An entry needs an email field (for example a field named "email"). Entries without an email address are skipped. First and last names are added when the form has fields like "name", "first name" or "last name".

What you need from MailerLite

  • API token: in MailerLite, go to Integrations, find MailerLite API and click Use, then Generate new token. Give it a name and copy it. MailerLite shows it only once.

  • Group ID: go to Subscribers > Groups and open the group. The long number in the browser's address bar is the Group ID.

Where to set it up

Form connections live in the builder, in the Analytics panel. Open your project, click the ··· (More panels) button in the top bar and choose Analytics. Scroll to Form submissions. Below it is a section called Send entries to.

The Analytics panel only appears in full once your site is published, so publish first. Only the project owner can add or change these connections.

Connect it

  1. Under Send entries to, open the Add a destination… menu and choose MailerLite.

  2. Paste the API token and Group ID.

  3. Click Save. The connection appears in the list with the On box ticked.

Test it

The Test button sends a sample entry without an opt-in, so for MailerLite it shows Test ran, nothing added: Visitor did not tick a marketing opt-in. That is expected, and it does not check your token.

To test properly, submit a real entry on your live site with your own email and the opt-in box ticked. Then check the group in MailerLite, and check that the dot next to MailerLite in WeInc is blue.

If something goes wrong

Each saved connection has a dot next to its name: blue means the last send worked, red means it failed, grey means it is paused. The last error is shown under the name.

  • "<field> is required" or "<field> doesn't look right" when saving: a value is missing or not in the expected format. Copy it again, with no extra spaces or characters.

  • "Access refused (401)" or "(403)": MailerLite did not accept the API token. Create a new one and add the connection again.

  • "Paused: the key was refused three times." If real form entries are refused three times in a row, WeInc pauses the connection so it stops failing. Test sends do not count toward this. Click the bin icon to remove it, then add it again with a new API token.

  • Other errors (for example "Error 404" or "Error 422"): usually a wrong Group ID. Check it in MailerLite, then remove and re-add the connection.

WeInc tries each send twice (one retry after a short pause) and waits up to 8 seconds for MailerLite to answer. The entry is always kept in Form submissions either way, so nothing is lost if a send fails.

Saved keys can't be viewed or edited later. To change a value, remove the connection and add it again.

Pause or disconnect

  • Pause: untick the On box next to the connection. It shows Paused and nothing is sent until you tick it again.

  • Disconnect: click the bin icon (Remove). WeInc deletes the saved key. Anything already in MailerLite stays there.

To fully revoke access, also delete the API token in MailerLite.
