Adding dependencies to tasks

The WeTrack system includes full dependency control, so that team members know when they rely on each other for work to be started and completed. Dependencies are when one Task relies in some way on another Task - upstream or downstream.

You can add Dependencies through the Dependencies tab of any Task Details page or through the Gantt Chart view.

Tasks with Dependencies have the 'Link' icon in their row to the right of the toolbar list, with the number in the orange bubble representing the number of Dependencies. This particularly makes you aware of cross-Project Dependencies.

The Gantt Chart view is recommended for the easiest visual editing of Dependencies, although it is more difficult here to add Dependencies between Tasks in different projects. You must be assigned ‘Gantt Editor’ role to make changes to Dependencies through the Gantt Chart.

Owners of dependent Tasks will be notified of any changes to "upstream" Tasks (those they depend on). In the Notification Centre, you can choose how often to be updated on any changes.

NOTE: There is no automatic changing of task dates and statuses based on a task's dependencies. However, if a task with a dependency is updated, the action owner of the next task in the downstream sequence will be notified of the update.

To add Dependencies on the Gantt Chart

Choose the Task for which you wish to add a Dependency and hover over it. A bubble will appear at each end. Click the bubble and drag to the Task which is Dependent on the first task. This will update the information in the Task form and changes will be logged in the audit history.

Further manipulate data by dragging Tasks to change/extend Dates. You can drag a task bar to the left or to the right to move both its start and due dates earlier or later, or you can hover over and drag either end of the task bar to increase the duration of the task.
