Marking assignments as done

In Whale, assignments are more than just notifications—they’re a way to ensure your team reads and acknowledges important information. Whether it’s a new policy, an onboarding guide, or a training update, the “Mark as done” feature allows users to confirm they’ve read and understood assigned content.

This simple action not only helps team members manage their own tasks but also allows managers to track progress and ensure compliance across the organization.

📋 How to mark assignments as done

Step 1: Open your Dashboard

  • Go to your My Dashboard in Whale

  • Find your list of Assignments under your To-do items

  • Click on the assignment you want to complete

Step 2: Read the assigned content

  • Carefully review the assigned Card or all Cards within a Playbook

  • Make sure you understand the content fully before marking it done

Step 3: Mark as done

  • For a Card: Scroll to the bottom of the card and click “Mark as done”

  • For a Playbook: You must go through and mark each card individually as done

There is no “one-click” done for an entire playbook—this ensures all content is actually reviewed


🔍 Tracking completion

  • Once a card or playbook is marked as done, it will disappear from your To-do list

  • Admins and managers can view progress from the Analytics tab to ensure key content is being completed on time

  • A new IT policy is shared—employees read the card and mark it done to confirm compliance

  • A new hire is assigned an onboarding playbook—they work through each card and mark them done as they go

  • A manager wants to ensure a process update has been reviewed by the team—they track completion via Whale analytics


By using the “Mark as done” feature, your team reinforces a culture of responsibility and ensures your documentation is actively used—not just published.
