How can I make Whizzimo run faster and give me more screen space?

Boost performance and expand your teaching view with a Chrome desktop app setup.

Updated yesterday

If Whizzimo feels slow or you want more screen space while teaching, running it as a Chrome desktop app can help.

When you open Whizzimo in a regular browser tab, it competes with other tabs, extensions, and background processes. This can cause tools like the pen and the tiles to feel laggy or delayed.

Opening Whizzimo as a Chrome desktop app gives it a clean, dedicated window. Many educators notice faster performance and smoother tool response right away.

Why this improves performance and screen space

When Whizzimo runs in a regular Chrome tab:

  • It competes with other open tabs.

  • Browser extensions may interfere.

  • Chrome may use extra memory and processing power in the background.

  • The address bar and browser tabs take up valuable screen space.

When Whizzimo runs as a Chrome desktop app:

  • It opens in its own window without the address bar or extra tabs.

  • It reduces interference from other browser activity.

  • It often improves responsiveness in tools like Whiteboard, Tileboard, Workbook Tiles, and Wordcards.

  • It gives you more usable screen space for instruction.

How to create a Chrome desktop app for Whizzimo

Use Google Chrome to set this up.

  • Open Google Chrome.

  • Go to app.whizzimo.com.

  • Click the three dots in the upper-right corner of your browser window.

  • Click More tools.

  • Click Create shortcut…

  • Check the box that says Open as window.

  • Click Create.

Whizzimo will open in a new window without the address bar.

You will also see a Whizzimo icon on your desktop or in your applications list.

💡 On Windows computers, you can right-click the Whizzimo icon and select Pin to taskbar for quicker access.

💡 If you need to adjust your view size, click the three dots in the upper-right corner of the app window and use + or to zoom in or out.

When should I try this?

Consider using the Chrome desktop app if:

  • The pen tool feels slow or delayed.

  • Dragging tiles feels choppy.

  • Whizzimo seems sluggish during lessons.

  • You want more teaching space without browser distractions.

Running Whizzimo as a Chrome desktop app is a simple change that often makes a noticeable difference in both speed and screen space.
