Note: Some banks will obscure or "mask" the last 4 digits of your bank account when added to Wingspan. That might mean after adding a payout method, instead of seeing the expected last 4 of your bank account, you see a different number. This is a security practice by your bank and not a bug.
Adding a Payout Method
To add your first payout method, navigate to Settings in the left-hand panel and select Payout & Payment Methods, then click the Add payout method or manage payout method button:
In the pop-up window, select whether you want to be paid via Standard payout (free) or through Instant payout, which deducts a fee from the payment. (Read more about instant payouts here.) Then click Continue:
Please note that Wingspan Wallet is only available to contractors in the U.S., and Instant payout is only available to contractors within the U.S. and Canada.
Next, choose a payout method and click Continue.
For instant payouts:First, connect a bank account (via Plaid or manually). Your bank will be cross-checked for eligibility for instant payouts. If your bank account is supported, it will be added as your instant payout method.
If your bank account is not supported for instant payouts, you'll be given three options:
Add a debit card as your instant payout method instead
Try a different bank account
Connect the bank account as a Standard payout method instead
The Wingspan Wallet is also available as an instant payout option when enabled.
For a bank account:
You'll either link with Plaid or set up your account manually:
Follow the prompts to enter your card or account details.
⚠ The Wingspan debit card should not be used for instant payouts. Instead, default to the Wingspan Wallet directly.
Updating Payout Methods
To update your default payout method, navigate to Settings in the left-hand panel and select Payout & Payment Methods. Then click the manage payout method button:
You can click Add new payout method and follow the prompts to connect a new account. You can also change your default payout method by clicking the three dots next to the account, then selecting the Set as default button on the right. To delete a payout method, click the Remove option:
Change Your Default Payout Method
To update your default payout method, navigate to Settings in the left-hand panel and select Payout & Payment Methods. Then click the manage payout method button
Click "Default" next to the existing payout method you'd like to choose as your new default.
International Payout Methods
If you are located outside of the U.S., you will need to select either an international (non-U.S.) based account, a U.S. based account, or Platform Balance.
Non-US-Based Accounts
You will be able to select your account country and your preferred currency if you wish to receive your payout in a currency other than the one the invoice is denominated in. For example, the invoice is denominated in USD, but you'd like to receive CAD.
Depending on your selected country and currency, you may be asked to provide additional information alongside your account number:
Wingspan will convert all deposits into your chosen local currency and deposit it into your bank account.
Important for international (non-US) contractors: Always enter your full IBAN exactly as it appears on your bank statement. Incomplete or partial IBANs may cause payment failures, bank rejections, or significant delays.
Canadian Accounts and Instant Payout
When adding a Canadian bank account, you'll have the option to set this account as your instant payout method by checking the box that appears under the "Instant payouts" header.
US-Based Accounts
Wingspan will keep your deposits in USD and deposit them into your US-based account.
Platform Balance
Non-US contractors can also choose Platform Balance — a holding account that temporarily stores your earnings in USD, CAD, or EUR until you're ready to transfer them to your bank. Learn more about Platform Balance →
Payout Splits
You can also split your payouts between your bank account, your Wingspan Wallet, and your Tax Withholdings account. By default, your standard payout method will receive 100% of your payouts.
To adjust how your payout is split, visit either your Wingspan Wallet dashboard or your Tax Withholdings dashboard and click the pencil icon next to the account you would like to adjust. You'll be taken to the account, where you can change the deposit percentage:
