A match means that we have tied an actual product listing to your list of relevant products given to Wiser at onboarding.

Key Definitions

  • Exact Match - An identical product sold at two different retailers.

  • Equivalent Match - A comparable product as defined by the client, typically. We can also identify based on size, price, or other specs for clients to approve. You may also hear “like item” or “similar matching” used which refers to the same thing.

What are the biggest differences between the two types of matches?

Exact matches are based on defining product data like brand, UPC and model. They have high accuracy, high completeness, and high objectivity.

Equivalent matches are based on other characteristics like name, price, and descriptions. They have medium relevance, a very high number of matches, and high subjectivity.

What if there was an exact match identified incorrectly by our system?

Clients can rectify any incorrect matches by deleting directly within the portal at the SKU level.

What is a good match rate?

With the process of matching online, you will likely never see 100% of your products represented across all retailers. This is because assortment varies, but also because the absence of certain product characteristics can make it difficult to link items for certain. A “good” match rate will vary by category. Please reach out to your Wiser Engagement Manager if you are concerned with the incidence of matching in your portal.
