๐ŸŽ‰ The new payment system has now opened for beta testers! Thank you to our patient beta testers, who are helping us perfect our new payment system.๐ŸŽ‰
โ€‹
All payments through Stripe have paused at 9am PST on February 15th.
โ€‹
You will get an in-app notice and email when you're invited to enable the new payment system, which is currently live but in beta testing.

Due to an unexpected policy change, Stripe has decided to part ways with WishTender. We are thrilled to announce that we've acquired a new financial partner, and as of the February 15th we are already onboarding beta testers to the new system.
โ€‹
We will continue to update you on the action items that you will need to take as we transition. In the meantime, please read the note below, which contains important information, action items, and deadlines related to our user accounts and payouts as we wind down our partnership with Stripe.
โ€‹
Please direct all questions to the support chat on the site, not Twitter DMs.

WishTender has been informed that Stripe will discontinue payment processing for all WishTender Stripe Connect accounts and that additional time-based restrictions will apply to non-US Stripe Connect payouts. We have summarized the essential dates and deadlines below:

Key dates for US accounts๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

  • Gift Payments. If you haven't switched to the new payment system*, your wishlist will be temporarily deactivated on February 15, 2024. This applies to US Stripe Connect account users.

  • Payouts. All US payouts to US bank accounts will continue as usual. You do not need to cash out at any point. However, as our relationship with Stripe will be discontinued, we strongly recommend ensuring your balance is paid out as soon as possible and no later than March 17, 2024.

Key dates for non-US accounts๐ŸŒ

  • Gift Payments. If you haven't switched to the new payment system*, your wishlist will be temporarily deactivated on February 9, 2024. This applies to non-US Stripe Connect account users.

  • Payouts. Payouts of your balance stored in your non-US Stripe accounts will cease on February 20, 2024. Please ensure your Stripe balance is paid out by February 19, 2024.

โ€‹*Switching to the new payment system
You can continue receiving gifts on WishTender once you reactivate your wishlist with our new payment solution. We will notify you when the new payout solution is ready. We plan to be up and running by February 15, barring any unforeseen issues.

Payout Precautions for non-US accounts

You need to take prompt action if your WishTender Stripe Connect account

  • is non-US

  • and

    • 1. your payouts are paused

    • 2. you have a payout issue, (e.g., you attached the wrong bank account)

    • 3. you have a monthly or weekly payout schedule.

If the above applies to you, reach out to our support team to set your payouts to daily and/or to address your payout issues ASAP to get your balance paid out before February 20th.
โ€‹
Most of you have a the default payout schedule, so your payouts should be paid out in time. Unless you messaged us at some point requesting your payouts to be changed or paused, your payout schedule should not cause an issue.

If your non-US balance is not initiated in a payout out by the February 20th, we will have to move your funds via our new payout provider. Moving these funds could accrue fees, delays, and conversion losses. So please address any payout issues now to prevent losses.

We've been working through this sudden and surprising change around the clock. It's been a challenge, but we are facing this head-on. We know how important it is for users to collect payments, and weโ€™re implementing our new solution as fast as possible so users can experience minimal interruption. We apologize to those who may experience payment interruptions during this transition.
โ€‹
We are so grateful to have the chance to continue building for the community. We have exciting plans on our roadmap that we will be better equipped to accomplish with partners better aligned with our model. We understand this sudden change may be disconcerting, and we welcome your feedback and concerns. With your support, we will evolve the platform far beyond what it is today with our new financial partners, providing you with a more resilient and stable platform.

Clarifying some common misconceptions/questions floating around:

WishTender is not closing down.

We are switching payment solutions. We hope to get the solution up and running ASAP so there is minimal or no downtime.
โ€‹

All Wishlist owners need to know this:

If you haven't switched to the new payment system, your wishlist will be temporarily deactivated on the date* below. Once our new payment solution is up, you can set your payments up to continue getting gifts past that date. We will send an email and in-app notification when this solution is ready. Payouts of your Stripe balance will continue uninterrupted -> unless you're a non-US wishlist owner.
โ€‹

*Feb 15th for US wishlist owners

*Feb 9th for non-US wishlist owners
โ€‹

When will the new payment solution be ready?

The goal is to be up and running taking card payments before February 15th with the new solution. However, it's a significant process so we don't want to make too many promises about dates.
โ€‹
โ€‹

Non-US wishlist owners need to know this:

Make sure your Stripe balance is zeroed out by February 19th. For most of you this won't be an issue. For those who have custom payout schedules or failed payments you will need to take action to make sure your Stripe account is paid out.
โ€‹

Will WishTender remain adult-creator-friendly?

Yes. We would not be pushing forward without an adult-creator-friendly solution and partners who are also adult-friendly for our use case.
โ€‹
However, if a partner changes their mind, we've rebuilt our system to switch out partners easily and maintain redundancies.
โ€‹

Will WishTender increase its fees?

We are not looking to increase fees. We are looking to match the current setup as best as possible, even if that means a loss of revenue for WishTender.
โ€‹

Will the new solution be international?

Yes.
โ€‹
โ€‹Please reach out if you're in one of the following countries, as these will not be supported in the initial switch:
โ€‹
North Macedonia
Saint Lucia
Trinidad and Tobago
Uruguay
โ€‹
โ€‹

Who is the new processor?

Our new setup involves many partners and backend solutions pieced together. We won't have a single processor like we did with Stripe. The new system is built to not rely and any single partner.

Why haven't you announced the new technologies you're using for payments?

We have several reasons we aren't announcing our the solutions yet in writing. Those reasons range from protecting ourselves from the competition, adhering to contracts, and making sure that the solutions are working before prematurely announcing a partnership. It is uncommon for companies to reveal their backend solutions for payments when they are using a custom-built proprietary solution. Thank you for understanding.
โ€‹

Can non-US users use WishTender from February 9th-15th?

If our new solution is in place, then yes!
โ€‹
If the new solution isn't available, you can create a Virtual US account in the interim. However, it may not be worth doing so, as this solution only helps for six days. You will have to switch to the new solution anyway. Non-US users may wish to explore virtual US bank account solutions (wise.com, etc.) as an interim measure. Please read our FAQ article on virtual US accounts and follow the instructions before reaching out.
