When you build your subscription boxes on Withfriends, you may need to collect extra information from your customers – whether that’s t-shirt sizes, dietary preferences, or anything else. Using our subscription box builder, you can give your customers choices. These choices connect to Product Variant IDs in Shopify, so if you’re using our platform integration on Shopify it’s easy to connect Withfriends with your existing fulfillment partners and reporting tools.

First, set up your membership tier by pressing + Subscription Box on the tier builder.

Second, click the pencil icon under the benefit name, and scroll to the Benefit Options section.

Next, click New Option to add a benefit option.

Give your option a title, like “Gluten-Free” or “XL Hoodie”—whatever information you need to collect from your customers!

.

Here are the two Shopify Variant ID strategies you can employ.

Simple Usage

Create a new a product in your Shopify store just for subscription boxes. Create a new variant in this product for each option on Withfriends, and enter the variant IDs into the options on Withfriends.

If you're testing our new version, we handle this automatically for you, but chances are you're not, so you'll need to enter the IDs.

If you’re shipping the same thing to everyone with no options, add a single Benefit Option on Withfriends and give it a Shopify Variant ID, and it will be automatically selected for your customers.

Advanced Usage

Instead of creating a separate Shopify product, you can cycle existing products on your store for your subscription customers.

Just enter an existing variant ID into the option. To add variety, simply update the variant IDs to new products on your store regularly.

For a full fledge example, let's say you want to ship something different every quarter, but you want to track each quarterly product separately in Shopify. However, you don’t want to have to ask your customers for new information each time.

Here's how to do that:

Create a Benefit Option for each piece of information you want to collect, such as the t-shirt sizes Small, Medium, and Large.

Add the Shopify Variant ID for your existing product to each option.

When it’s time to update your product offerings, change only the Shopify Variant ID on each size. This will “roll over” your customers’ preferences to your new products.
