Membership Tiers, Subscription Boxes, Customizations, & Options.

A Membership Tier on Withfriends may contain a Subscription Box, which includes Customizations(s), which include Option(s). Members select Options during checkout and can update at any time in their Member Dashboard.

For each Membership Tier on Withfriends, we generate a public Shopify product.

You can manage this product in our Membership Tier Editor Panel. Inventory tracking is turned off, and you don't need to physically fulfill orders for this product.

Instead, the Subscription Box generates orders to fulfill based on the Customizations you have added to your box.

Customization Modes & Inventory

Customizations can have one of 3 modes, which are used to generate Shopify orders for physical fulfillment:

Mode 1: Curated Box

You can set up a simple and flexible subscription box by using our default Customization. Withfrends generates an unpublished Shopify product for the Customization, and automatically generates a variant for each Option of the Customization.

You can manage this product entirely within the Subscription Box Editor Panel. Inventory is tracking turned off. You can fulfill orders generated for these Shopify products by curating the actual products to ship on demand.

This is a our simplest and most popular mode.

Mode 2: Existing Products

You can add existing Shopify products to (new or existing) Membership Tiers by using the Product Subscription Extension directly within an existing Product Admin Page on Shopify, which adds an Customization to a Subscription Box with an Option for each existing variant.

You can curate these existing products adding or removing products at any time with the Product Subscription Extension. When you add a product with multiple variants, existing subscribers are asked to select a new Option with an email notification.

You can manage the products and inventory in the Shopify Product admin panel, and fulfill orders normally.

Mode 3: Preferences Across Products

You can collect preferences that persist across multiple curated products, like dietary restrictions, by adding Customizations under Advanced, and entering variants for each Option (e.g. "Gluten free").

You can curate new products at any time by swapping in new variants for each Option, without prompting existing subscribers to select a new Option. This might be a better fit for you than Mode 2.

Otherwise, like with Mode 2, you can manage the products and inventory in the Shopify Product admin panel, and fulfill orders normally.
