How to Create a Google Developer Account for Branded Apps

Step 1: Sign Up for a Google Developer Account

  1. Navigate to the Google Play Console:

  2. Sign in with your Google account:

    • If you already have a Google account, enter your credentials to sign in.

    • If you don’t have a Google account, click Create account and follow the prompts to set one up.

  3. Enable two-step verification:

    • Google requires two-step verification for developer accounts. If prompted, set up this feature to enhance your account’s security.

Step 2: Choose Your Account Type

Google offers two types of developer accounts:

  • Personal: Suitable for individual developers.

  • Organization: Recommended for businesses and organizations.

Step 3: Set Up Your Developer Profile

  1. Enter your Developer Name:

    • This name will be publicly visible on the Google Play Store. For example, “[Your Business Name] Developer Account.”

  2. Create or select a payments profile:

    • Link a Google payments profile to your developer account.

    • If you already have an existing payments profile, choose to use it or create a new one.

    • Enter or confirm your organization’s name and address.

  3. Pay the registration fee:

    • A one-time registration fee of $25 USD is required.

    • Accepted payment methods include MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover (U.S. only), and Visa Electron (outside the U.S.).

Step 4: Provide Contact Information

  1. Developer email address:

    • Enter a business email address that will be displayed on your public developer profile.

    • It’s recommended to use an email different from your personal account.

  2. Verify your email address:

    • Click Verify email address and follow the verification steps.

  3. Consent to display information:

    • Check the box to allow Google to show your information in your public developer profile.

Step 5: Complete Identity Verification

Google requires identity verification to ensure the security of your account.

  1. Provide necessary information:

    • For organization accounts, you’ll need to provide:

      • D-U-N-S number

      • Organization name and address

      • Organization phone number

      • Organization website

      • Contact name

      • Contact email address

      • Contact phone number

      • Developer email address

      • Developer phone number

  2. Verify your identity:

    • Upload the required documents as prompted.

    • Verification can take up to 5 days, so plan accordingly.
